Our Philosophy
|
|
Our fundamental objective is to nurture the family as a whole.
KEY BELIEFS:
- Positive interaction with both the parent and the child will affect our community as a whole. We believe that a Christian foundation provides the basis for this positive interaction.
- Children should develop a healthy self-esteem, gained through confidence in their environment, caretakers, and mastery of skills.
- A Child’s play is his work that should be accomplished in low-stress, non-competitive settings.
KEY GOALS:
- To provide the necessary tools/surroundings for the child to learn from their successes as well as their setbacks.
- To educate staff about age appropriate development and expectations.
- To have continuing education for teaching staff.
The program serves parents and children by providing a full day program for toddlers and preschoolers in a Christian setting. Parents will have the opportunity to pursue their interests with the knowledge and comfort that their children are being cared for in a responsible and loving manner.
The Mothers’ Day Out Program gives children a setting in which they can feel secure and happy. It also seeks to expand their horizons in the following areas.
- PHYSICAL - Using large muscles outdoors, riding big wheels and playing on the playground. Throwing balls and beanbags. Using small muscles to manipulate toys, puzzles, and creative materials.
- SOCIAL - Enjoying others, relating to people and friends. Learning to share, give, and receive. Learning self-control and independence. Being encouraged to respond in positive ways and discouraged from negative activities and attitudes.
- EMOTIONAL - Building self-confidence and self-esteem. Understanding limits and limitations. Accepting feelings in self and others. Expressing feelings appropriately.
- COGNITIVE - Providing new ideas and experiences. Expanding vocabulary. Giving opportunities to improve language skills through interactions, discussions, and songs. Learning to observe, compare, and differentiate. Experiencing fantasy through dramatic play and stories. Listening, following directions, thinking, and reasoning. Exploring the uses of the senses. Appreciating music. Becoming aware of God and His teachings through Bible stories, movies, and songs.
Activities will be based upon each child’s developmental level and will be tied in to the unit to be studied each week.
The daily schedule will incorporate a balance of activities including-
- structure/unstructured
- indoor/outdoor
- informative/creative
- alone/together
- observing/participation
- active/quiet
- directed/discovery
