Welcome

We sponsor Emmaus Walks and Chrysalis Flights within the Wyoming Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Wyoming Conference is located in the central southern tier of New York State and the northeastern tier of Pennsylvania. It encompasses the Oneonta and Binghamton Districts in New York State and the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre Districts in Pennsylvania.

Information About the Walk to Emmaus

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour short course in Christianity, comprised of fifteen talks by lay and clergy on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church. The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The "Emmaus community," made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends.

History

The first Walk to Emmaus in the Wyoming Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church occurred in the spring of 1988 with the assistance of the Nashville Tennessee Community under the auspices of The Upper Room. Since then the Wyoming Emmaus Chrysalis Community has sponsored over 80 Walks for both men and women and over 30 Flights for youth. It has grown to a community of over 1,800 persons. The walk is designed to be ecumenical in nature.

The three-day Walk to Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ
