OUR STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
This information was
collected by Danny Gustafson, Tyler Nichols, Aaron West 4/2000
Tammy Gustafson - Senior High SS teacher

While studying different symbols of the church, we found many symbols in our stained glass windows that we weren¡¯t sure what and why they were used.
We decided to find out. We looked in the Church History file and found a copy of a newspaper article from the Bureau County Tribune dated Friday, April 18, 1890. It explained in great detail the sanctuary as it was in 1890. ..... ( read highlighted parts of the article). We found that many of the windows that were originally in our the church dedicated Sunday, March 20, 1890 are still here today. We need to remember that the church caught fire in 1896 and was later rebuilt. Some of the windows are now in a different place.- -and some are no longer in existence.
Stenciled patterns are:
Pomegranate - Symbol of the resurrection and power of our Lord
Grapes / Vine - - a bunch of grapes signifies the sacrament of the Holy communion
Oak Leave / Acorn- unsure of why this was used-used as landmarks for directions or location. Abram built an altar to the Lord under the oaks of Mamre. (Gen. 13:18).
Jacob built an altar to the Lord called Elbethel, in Luz, which is in the land of Canaa.
Flowers used were :
Daisy - - innocence of the Christ child
Rose - The Nativity of our Lord. Also our Lord¡¯s mother, Mary.
Unidentified flower - 1
The South window in the infant room, the first window in the audience room, the choir loft windows, the last window in the audience room, and the south window in the bible classroom have a green and lilac diamond designs
The entrance windows and the window above the exit door are the only three windows that have a lilac and gold diamond design.
The other windows all have a blue and tan diamond design.
