FOUR PRIZES: $500 each + feature in documentary film

Final Deadline: February 19, 2010
Award Date: May 2010

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  1. One prize for a work on canvas no larger than 8'3" wide x 7' high (2” deep max)
  2. One prize for a work on canvas no larger than 7' wide x 7' high (2” deep max).
  3. Two prizes any other works as selected by the jury.

Topical Specifications for All Works

Works should invite inquiry into some or all of the following:

  • Living one’s spirituality/faith throughout all aspects of everyday life
  • Celebrating the individual in the context of diverse community
  • One's role in the stewardship of natural and human resources
  • Vocation as a calling in life
  • Service to others as a means to meaning and purpose in one's life

All artists entering the competition, and their process of creating their work, will be included in some aspect of Wesley's documentary film on the development of Wesley House and Campus Center. This documentary is currently in the making and will continue during the 2009-10 academic year. Documentary filmmaker, Brighton Kimbell, is a recent UC Berkeley graduate.

Jurors will include representatives from the following communities: spirituality and faith, fine arts, environmental, UC Berkeley faculty/staff, UC Berkeley student group, and Wesley Foundation Board.

All four works will be identified with their artist and exhibited from the time of Wesley's Grand Opening in August of 2010 until the end of the 2010-11 academic year. Artists must consent to exhibit their work. All works will be insured up to established limits. Other top works selected by the Jury will be exhibited at the Grand Opening of Wesley House and Campus Center in August of 2010.
