7:00-8:30 p.m. Tents of Hope --Continued planning for this important campus-wide event to raise awareness of genocide in Darfur plus tonight we show YOUR photos of "Faith in Action." You will be the narrator of your photo segment.

Tents of Hope started about a year ago in which many people all over the U.S. decided to take a stand for what was occurring in Darfur, Sudan by symbolically creating tents that were unique works of art that allowed for a way in which people could establish relationships with the people of Sudan. The tents are not answers in themselves but a concrete way to promote advocacy towards the issues that are continuing to persist in Darfur.

Wesley Student Center is partnering with others to purchase and create personalized symbols of awareness, hope, and dedication towards supporting an end to this genocide. All tents that are created as works of art and used as focal points of education, advocacy, and fundraising will be sent by a representative to the national event in Washington, D.C. in November. Please join us in taking a stand against this crisis by contributing to the work on this tent.

Multi-Faith Service Opportunity in Denver--
Get out the Vote Campaign

We will leave on Sunday, work all day Monday, and Tuesday. When the polls close on Tuesday, we will have an election party to watch the returns...and hopefully you will be able to celebrate the victory of your candidate.

WHAT: This is a learning / serving opportunity involving a trip to Denver, Colorado. Denver is a crucial city in a crucial swing state. We will be working with a community labor organization called FRESC which is a Partnership for Working Families. FRESC invites participants to come to Denver to join the important non-partisan voter participation and ballot initiative campaign.

How You Can Participate

* Precinct walking and phone banking
* Opportunities to learn how to build a civic participation program

WHO: This is an interfaith trip with Jewish students from Hillel and Christian students from the First Congregational Church of Berkeley and the Wesley Student Center (funded by the United Methodist Church).

WHERE: Denver, Colorado...duh. We’ll be staying in a residence suite type hotel. Inexpensive, but it has a kitchen so we’ll be able to cook meals together and be in community. There is a grant that is covering these accommodations.

WHY: Do I really need to answer this? Fine, I will. It's because Jews and Christians have a rich legacy of civic and political engagement in the United States, and we will continue that legacy. Because voting is powerful. Voting is responsible. Voting is a privilege. We will use our privilege and help others use theirs as well. We will be responsible. And we will be powerful!

HOW MUCH $?: Grants are available to help cover airfare.

Weekend activities will include national speakers, celebrities, entertainment, children’s activities, seminars and workshops, an Interfaith Worship Service, films, and other presentations.
