As John Wesley and the early Methodists did in the inner city of their day so Woodlawn United Methodist seeks to manifest the transforming, life renewing Presence of Christ in the inner city of Birmingham.
In seeking to fulfill its mission, WUMC has partnered with on site ministries: Cornerstone Schools of Alabama, Outreach Incorporated, Youth Works, and the Woodlawn Christian Center to improve the life conditions of individuals and of the greater community itself.
At the same time we embrace the rich diversity of the inner city by being an inclusive community of faith that welcomes all of God's children without exception.
To all who need to know the inclusive love of God, we bid you welcome. Help us to proclaim that love to a broken, hurting world.

Minister Notes
January 2009
It seems like only yesterday that we were all making preparations for the arrival of the Millennium. Can it be that we are nine years removed from that time?
There is one thing on which we can count in this world, and that is that time does not stand still for us. Change is an ever present reality. Change: Hey! That could be a good campaign slogan for someone.
In all seriousness, we are, everyone, changing, and while we do not always embrace it with undiluted joy, still it imposes itself upon us.
But, in the face of change there is an eternal Constant that stands over and above the temporal truth of ongoing change in our lives, and that Constant is God, Who, through the gift of Immanuel has promised to be with us under every circumstance of the human experience, even the changes that force themselves upon us. And if God is with us, and God is for us, then there is nothing that we need fear, come what may.
We do not know what the coming year will bring to us as the people of God called Woodlawn United Methodist Church, but we do know that God will be with us in our struggles to be faithful and on our journey toward becoming more and more what God has called us to be.
Pray that whatever changes we may face in the future will be the kind of changes that are needed for us all to grow into the image of Christ and that all we say and do will be in accord with God’s divine will for us as the Church.
Grace and peace,
Larry
