Pastor Jim Hitt
Pastor's Message
Hello everyone,

I am thankful to God for each and every one of you. He has wonderfully knit your DNA together - and has an eternal purpose for you. You are precious to Him. You are also precious to me.

We are reminded by David Robertson that this is the month of Thanksgiving. A preacher in the 1700's wrote, "A grateful thought toward heaven is of itself a prayer." And another in the same century wrote, "True Christians are those persons who never for a moment forget what God has done for them in Christ, and whose whole activity have their root in the sentiment of gratitude." And an Arabian Proverb goes, "Do not cut down the tree that gives you shade." It is always the season to be giving Thanks unto our Heavenly Father for our Blessed Hope in His Son.

We can be thankful for the beautiful trees in the Bluegrass. The yellows seem to dominate the areas which I have driven thru lately. The Burning Bushes are brilliant with their red leaves in the sunlight. Where people have kept the grass mowed - the greens are lush and beautiful. We can be thankful for our sight and for the ability to see the sights.

This is such an exciting time of the year. So many holiday events that pertain to Jesus are coming up. We end our church year with Thanksgiving Sunday on November 22. Mark your calendars now to attend the Nelson County Ministeral Association's Communty Thanksgiving Service at 3pm on the 22nd at the First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, 175 E. John Rowan Blvd. Then will begin the Christian New Year with the 1st Sunday of Advent on November 29. This will also be the begining of my 5th year of serving the Lord in Nelson County.

I am so very thankful for the privilege of being here. It is the most wonderful calling I have ever had. I honestly cannot communicate how wonderful the Bloomfield and Woodlawn/Beechfork charges are to me. Neither am I able to fully express how thankful I am for the privilege of serving as your pastor.

We can be thankful for our founder, John Wesley. He wrote the following in 1733.

"I magnify you for giving me birth in your church, and for religious parents. Thank you for washing me in your baptism, instructing me in your doctrine of truth and holiness, sustaining me with your gracious providence, guiding me by your blessed Spirit. Thank you, too, for admitting me, with my Christian brothers and sisters, to wait on you in public worship, and for so often feeding my soul with your body and blood, pledges of love and strength and comfort. Be gracious to all of us whom you admit to your holy table. Strengthen our hearts in all your ways against temptations, and make us more than conquerers in your love. Amen."

I am thankful to God for each and every one of you.

Your brother in Christ,
Jim Hitt
