SOCIAL ACTION COMMISION

One of the projects the Social Action Commission it sponsoring is an UMCOR School Kit Drive.

Help us to send 100 tote bags filled with school supplies to children in need.

Ways to contribute:
Shop and donate complete school kits.
Donate funds to purchase kits or help with shipping.

We'll collect every week until we reach 100!

Shopping List: The cost of supplies for one kit is approximately $10.00 - if you buy in bulk and do more than one kit, the cost may be less. UMCOR requests these specific items:

1 pair of blunt (rounded tip) scissors
1 ruler (30cm/12-inch)
6 unsharpened pencils with erasers
1 eraser (2.5 inches)
1 box of 24 crayons (only 24)
12 sheets of construction paper (various colors)
2 pads (or loose leaf) of 8.5" x 11" ruled paper
Please bring your completed kits to church in a large plastic sealable plastic bag. UMCOR requests that we NOT include any notes, money or additional materials, due to strict internation rules.

Involve your children. Let them know why we are doing this project. Take them shopping with you. Let them sort and bag the supplies and/or join us as we do the same. Say a little blessing over each bag and pray for the child that it will reach.

In some countries, children don't have books or school supplies. Many don't have school rooms; classes are held in inadequate or half-destroyed buildings, tents or even open air. Often, students must write down everything the teacher says or records on a board. Their teacher's knowledge and their own notes are their only textbooks. School kits may be these children's only educational resources. Kits are shipped to all parts of the world.

The supplies are distributed in tote bags, which we will provide. You can help be providing the contents or by donating funds to cover shipping. In addition to shipping these to UMCOR, we must also include an extra dollar for each kit to help UMCOR with distribution costs (that's an extra $100 that we will be donating). Thanks for your support of this project!

MONETARY DONATIONS
To make a donation, write a check to "WLAUMC - School Kits." Any amount is most welcome. We will use the funds for the UMCOR $1/kit shipping donation, to make additional school kits and to pay for shipping the 100 kits to UMCOR.
