THE BOOK OF REVELATION

CHAPTER 13

INTRODUCTION:   This chapter is a continuation of Chapter 12. In this chapter we continue to look at the characters of the tribulation period. A reviving of the old Roman Empire.

I. THE BEAST FROM THE SEA – THE ANTICHRIST13:1-10.

A. A description of the Anti-Christ 1-2.

1.        He has seven heads Rev. 17:10-12.

a.     They represent successive rulers.

b.     They are great world empires. Five of these empires have already come and gone. The sixth is now in power during John's time.

c.     On these heads is written the name blasphemy. (It means he is direct opposition to God).

2.        He has ten horns. 17:12.

a.     Kings over which the beast rules.

b.     This makes the beast an individual with great world political powers.

c.     Crowns on the horns shows authority.

3.        His body is like a leopard with feet like a bear and mouth like that of a lion. Daniel 7:4-7.

a.     Daniel is talking about this same beast.

b.     Daniel says that the last great world empire will have all the features like the first ones.

4.        His power comes from Satan.

B.     The beast has a deadly wound. 13:3.

1.     One of the empires has been put out of commission.

2.     It is now being revived.

a.     Think of which empire of the Old Roman Empire has not been active.

b.     The Old Pagan Roman Empire.

3.     The reviving of this empire is a thing to behold. The whole

world is astonished.

C. The unsaved world will worship Satan and the Anti-Christ. 13:4.

1.     They first worship Satan and then the Beast.

2.     They set him up as a mighty power.

D. The character of the Anti-Christ. Daniel 11:36-45.

1.     He blasphemes God.

2.     He blasphemes the name of God.

3.     He blasphemes the tabernacle.

4.     He blasphemes them that dwell in heaven.

E. The dominion of the beast. Rev. 13:7, 8.

1.     This is a counterfeit to the reign of Christ.

2.     He has world wide authority.

3.     Many will perish as martyrs during this time.

4.     The whole world will worship him.

a.     Those who are unsaved both Jews and Gentiles.

b.     The lamb has been slain in the mind of God since the foundation of the world.

F. An exhortation to hear 13:9-10.

1.     It is given to anyone who will listen.

2.     Those who persecute the saints must in turn suffer God's

righteous wrath.

3.     Scriptures have mention this vindication. Genesis 9:6;

Matthew 26:52; Romans 12: 19.

II. THEBEAST OUT OF THE EARTH ? THE FALSE PROPHET 13:11-18

A.    The second beast is like the first. He takes care of the worship toward the first beast. He is head of the apostate church.

B.    Some facts concerning the False Prophet.

1.  He is influential in religious affairs. 13:11.

        a. Two horns like a lamb shows the religious aspect.

b. He is also called a prophet. Rev. 16:13;19:20;20:10.

2.   He is motivated by Satan just like the first beast. (Speaks like a dragon.)

3.  He has a great amount of authority. (All the power of the first beast.)

4.  He compels the earth to worship the first beast.

5.  The false prophet imitates the miracles of the two witnesses. 13:3-4.

a.    He is able to deceive the unbelieving world.

b.    He leads them into making a idol of the first beast.14.

6.  If people will not worship the Anti-Christ He has power to take their lives.

a.    He has deceived the people.

b.    No one can give life but God.

c.    These things could be done by mechanical means.

7.  He has the authority in the economic realm to control all commerce.     13:16-17.

        a. This comes as a result of the beast worship.

        b. It extends to all classes of people.

C.    The beast has a mark to put on his followers.

1.  He once again imitates something that God had started.

2.  This is a mark for buying and selling.

3.  The mark itself:

a.    The number limits him to man’s level.

b.    The number six is short of being perfect.

c.    This will be the control of a great empire.
