Chapter 10

The Mighty Angel From Heaven

Introduction:

Chapter 10 is a part of the 6th Trumpet. We are awaiting the sounding of the 7th Trumpet which does not come until Rev. 11:15.This is part of a parenthetical section that comes between the 6th and 7th trumpets.  Remember we had another parenthetical section between the 6th and 7th seals.

 

I.          THE MIGHTY ANGEL AND THE SEVEN THUNDERS  10:1-7.

A.        Who is the mighty Angel?

1.         His appearance.

a.                   Clothed with a cloud - Jesus will come back in in the clouds `Acts 1:19.

b.                  Rainbow on his head - Rev. 4:3 pictures a rainbow around the throne. Ezk. 1:28.

c.                   Face as it were the sun.Look back to Rev. 1:16.

d.                  Feet as pillars of fire. Rev. 1:15.

e.                   Has little book in His hand.

f.                    His right foot is placed on the sea. His left foot is placed on the earth. - A show of             domination.

g.                   His voice roared like a lion. - He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

2.         What He declares.

a.         v. 6 His authority comes from God. The Father has given the Son all authority.

b.                  v. 6b There shall be no more delay. Don't fall in love with this world, it is going to pass             away.

B.         The seven thunders. v. 3.

1.                  They come as a result of the roaring lion-like voice.

2.                  What the seven thunders say will not be known.

3.                  There are still secrets not yet known to man. Man has at this time all God wants them to know.

 

`           II.        THE LITTLE BOOK WHICH IS OPEN10:8-11

A.        The identity of the little book.

1.         The contents are not revealed.

2.         Two possibilities.

a.         The book mentioned in chapter 5.

b.         The Word of God.

B.         John told to take the book and eat it.

1.         It would be sweet in his mouth - The Word of God

is sweet as we read it.

2.         It would be bitter in his stomach - After we receive the sweetness of the Word and we begin             to digest it, it can become bitter because it shows us what we really are.

*Note:  The Word itself says it is a two-edged sword.

C.                 John will return from the island of Patmos and tell many people what he has seen and heard.
