John give us the answers.
I.
HE CAME TO TAKE AWAY OUR SINS (v.5)
A. “He was manifested to take away our sins”
B. We are all sinners (Rom. 3:23)
1. Sin brings sorrow, pain and death (Rom. 5:12)
2. Jesus came to bring us eternal life (Rom. 6:23)
C. Jesus loves sinners
1. Yet He was without sin. (v. 5)
2. He is the perfect Savior.
D. Have you made Him your own?
II.
HE CAME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL (v. 8)
A. “Manifested that he might destroy the works of the
devil”
B. The work of the Devil in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3)
1. Tempting Eve to eat the forbidden fruit (Gen. 3)
2. Death came upon all because of sin
C. The work of God in Eden (Gen 3)
1. Seeking Adam and Eve who were afraid
2. Promising a Redeemer who would bruise the Serpent’s
head.
D. At the cross, the promise was fulfilled.
E. Jesus is still destroying the works of the Devil.
1. Saving those who trust in Him (John 6:37)
2. Changing lives; making new creatures ( 2 Cor. 5:17)
3. Setting those in bondage to Satan free. (John 8:36)
III.
HE CAME TO SHOW THE FATHER’S LOVE (4:9)
A. “Manifested the love of God toward us”
1. God sent His Son into the world
2. Eternal life is ours through Him
B. God loved us first (v. 10)
1. Loved us while we were sinners (Rom. 5:8)
2. Loved us when we rebelled against Him.
C. This love moved God to send Jesus to die for us.
1. Who can explain such love?
2. Why would any reject such love?
