Home Sweet Home

Luke 8:39

Father’s Day

INTRODUCTION:

The sad story of a demon possessed man

  1. A man who lived in a cemetery
  2. A man who was self-destructive (Mark 5:1-5)
  3. A man who was uncontrollable (Mark 5:1-5)

Jesus demonstrated His power over Satan

  1. The man was set free from his tormentors
  2. He was calmed and in his right mind
  3. The Lord sent him home to show what had happened to him.

Why did Jesus send this delivered man home?

              I.      HOME IS THE FIRST FRONTIER OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

A.     Noah won his family to the Lord (Gen. 6:7)

B.     Joshua: “As for me and my house…” (Josh. 24:15)

C.    Cornelius gathered his family to hear Peter (Acts 10:24)

D.    The Philippian jailer and his family believed (Acts 16:34)

E.     Our families should be the first to know our faith is real

1.      It is most difficult to be Christ like at home

2.      At home our witness stands or falls

F.     How strong is your testimony at home?

II.      HOME IS THE PLACE TO GLORY IN THE GOOD THINGS OF GOD.

A.     “Show what great things the Lord hath done to thee.”

B.     Do you major on your blessings at home?

1.      Do loved ones see you as a genuine Christian?

2.      Are you known at home for faith or for fault finding?

C.    Do you appear holy at church and hateful at home?

D.    Are you saintly at church and sour at home?

E.     Are you gracious at church and grouchy at home?

F.     Is your home a place of praise or of pouting?

G.    Do you glory in the goodness of God at home?

III.      Home is the outpost for outreach with the gospel of christ

A.     This man started at home and spread the word.

B.     He shared his testimony throughout the city.

C.    Christian homes should be lighthouses.

1.      Communities should know where Christians live.

2.      Neighborhoods should be evangelized.

3.      Families should be brought to Christ.

4.      Reaching the world one person at a time, one home at a time, one community at a time.

CONCLUSION:

When Jesus returned multitudes awaited Him.  (v. 40)

One man had been faithful at home and many believed.

Let’s make our homes mission stations

Obey Christ’s call for Christian living at home.
