Psalms 121

INTRODUCTION

A Psalm for those who need help.

1. If you need help this psalm is for you.
2. There is no other requirement for readers of this psalm.

We often need help:

1. In this world we have trouble (John 16:33)
2. Sometimes people give us trouble
3. Sometimes our bodies give us trouble
4. Sometimes we bring trouble on ourselves

I. HEAD FOR A HILL CALLED SINAI

A. Moses and Mt. Sinai (Ex. 20)

1. Moses and the burning bush

2. Moses called to deliver his people

3. Moses bringing plagues upon Pharaoh

4. Moses leading Israel through the Red Sea

5. Moses on the mount with God.

B. On Mt. Sinai, Moses received the Law of God

1. The law that declared God’s holiness

2. The law that sets down unchanging principles

C. This holy, unchanging God offers help to those in distress.

II. HEAD FOR A HILL CALLED CALVARY

A. The place where Jesus died to satisfy the Law.

1. The place of Mercy and grace

2. The place where God is both Just and the Justifier (Rom. 3:23-26)

3. Where forgiveness flows freely

B. This is the hill of salvation and hope

1. Are you burdened with sin?

2. Do you long for assurance of Heaven?

C. The cross is the cure

1. When you are in pain

2. When you are unwilling to forgive

3. When you have been wounded by another

4. When you are offended

D. There’s room at the cross for you.

III. HEAD FOR A HILL CALLED OLIVET

A. This s the place of the ascension of the living Christ

1. Christ is risen as He said

2. We serve a living Savior

B. The disciples were commissioned here (Acts 1:8)

C. The promise of His return was given by angels (Acts 1:11)

D. He will someday return here to set up His kingdom

CONCLUSION:

An invitation to those who need help

1. Come in faith to this righteous Savior

2. Come in faith to this crucified Savior

3. Come in faith to this risen, returning Savior
