Psalm 19

 

INTRODUCTION:

 

A Psalm of Glory

  1. Begins with the heaves glorifying God
  2. Ends with man glorifying God

 

A Psalm of Praise

  1. The praise of creation  (v. 1)
  2. The praise of inspiration (vv. 7-8)
  3. The praise of a consecrated heart (v. 14)

 

                                I.      CREATION’S GLORY ( vv. 1-6)

A.     Every time we look up we see God’s Glory

1.      Compare this with Psalm 8

2.      Both psalms declare God’s glory

3.      Both psalms remind us of our need of Him

B.     Man’s mistake in worshipping the heavens

1.      True from earliest times (Rom. 1:20-25)

2.      True in man’s present search of the heavens.

 

C.    Day and night remind us of the Creator

D.    Creation’s witness leaves the world without excuse (Rom. 1:20)

E.     The sun reminds us of the Son, the Bridegroom

 

                              II.      INSPIRATION’S GLORY (vv. 7-11)

A.     God’s perfect law makes us see the need of conversion

B.     The testimony of the Lord bring s wisdom

C.    The statues or the Lord rejoice our hearts

D.    The commandments o the Lord enlighten our eyes

E.     Man’s present search for his origin  in the heavens

1.      Creation’s lessons never contradict inspiration

2.      The Scriptures have already revealed our origin

3.      Nothing will be found to prove them wrong.

 

 

                            III.      CONSECRATION’S GLORY  (vv. 12-14)

A.     Considering God’s glory brings conviction of sin

B.     We then grasp the great gap between God and man

C.    The desire to bridge the gap

1.      Who can understand his errors?

2.      Cleanse me from secret faults.

3.      Keep me from presumptuous sins (pride, rebelliousness)

D.    The great prayer of consecration

1.      The psalmist wants his words to please God.

2.      He even wants this thoughts to please God.

3.      A good prayer for every day.

4.      A prayer concerning redemption, God’s highest glory.
