of our salvation
Three words for the
family: Profession, Progression,
Perfection
A. “He that saith he abideth in him”
B. We downplay the importance of profession
1. “I’d rather see a sermon than hear one any day”
2. Quiet faith preferred by many to zealous witnessing.
C. We are to give testimony to our faith
1. Believe and confess (Romans 10:9)
2. Baptism as a means of public witness
3. Church attendance shows our priorities.
D. We are to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8)
II.
PROGRESSION
A. “Ought himself also to walk”
1. Believers are people on the move
2. Our walk should confirm our talk
B. Abiding in Christ should show in our walk
C. Parents are pleased when a child starts walking
D. How shall we walk?
1. Walk honestly (Rom. 13:13)
2. Walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:16)
3. Walk in love (Eph 5:2)
4. Walk circumspectly (Eph. 5:15)
5. Walk in faith (Col 2:6)
6. Walk in wisdom, redeeming the time (Col. 4:5)
E. How are you progressing in the Christian life?
III.
PERFECTION
A. “Even as he walked”
B. We have a great example to follow.
C. We are not perfect, but Jesus is (1 Peter 2:21-25)
1. Others fail, Jesus doesn’t
2. Focus on Jesus, not faults of others
D. In looking to Jesus, we can be victorious (Heb. 12:2)
E. When we met Jesus we will be like Him (I John 3:2)
CONCLUSION:
Three commitments to make a
difference in our walk:
2. I will look for evidences of Christlikeness in others
3. I will keep looking to my perfect Savior.
