Isaiah 6:1-8
INTRODUCTION:
Millions of Christians live below their potential.
What is missing from the lives of these discontents?
I WE MUST SEE GOD AS HE IS (vv. 1-4)
A. Isaiah lived in a wicked period in his nation’s history.
1. His people had forsaken the Lord; violence filled the land.
2. Immorality was rampant; alcohol flowed freely.
B. King Uzziah had been Isaiah’s hope for the nation; then he died.
1. Now Isaiah realized his only hope must be in the Lord.
2. Politicians are unable to solve root problems; only God can do this.
C. At this panic point, Isaiah was given a vision of God in all His holiness.
D. The holiness of God is revealed throughout the Bible, especially at the Cross.
E. Changing views of sin do not change God’s holiness.
II WE MUST SEE OURSELVES AS WE ARE (vv. 5-7)
A. Isaiah experienced old-fashioned conviction of sin.
1. He had been made aware of the holiness of God.
2. This made him aware of his own sinfulness.
B. “Woe is me!”
1. “I am undone”
2. “I am a man of unclean lips”
3. “I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips
C. How long has it been since you measured yourself by God’s perfect standard?
1. Have you been excusing your sins?
2. Have you been comparing yourself to others and looking good?
D. We need to confess our sins and be made clean (1 John 1:9)
III WE MUST SEE THE WORLD AS GOD SEES IT (v.8)
A. “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
B. A lost and dying world was the reason for God’s call.
C. Five words that changed Isaiah’s life: “Here am I; send me”
1. Isaiah’s response launched him on a great adventure.
2. He would spend the rest of his life telling people about God.
D. Ask God to enable you to see lost people as He sees them.
CONCLUSION:
What is your answer to God’s challenging call?
Isaiah’s five-word answer gave him a purpose for living.
Make Isaiah’s commitment and life will never be boring again.
