Information on several of the graves is no longer readable.
Sources for the obituaries are the newspapers in which they appeared. Obituaries are not available for everyone buried here. If you have an obituary for someone that is buried here, but not included in the obituary section, please send a copy, so it can be added.
This listing is current through 1999. The church has a copy of this information. Any corrections would be appreciated. Please send them to Judith Fowler, 2535 Judge Logue Road, Newton, Alabama 36352.
There are a large number of unmarked graves in the cemetery. Anyone who has a loved one buried in one of these unmarked graves is asked to consider placing marker on it.
Anyone who has a loved one buried here is asked to please consider making a donation to the cemetery fund. Donations can be sent to Winslette Chapel Cemetery Fund, 296 Judge Logue Road, Newton, Alabama 36352.
The church also seeks information on the history of the church and cemetery, as well as identification of the unmarked graves. Information can be sent to the church at the above address.

She was a devoted and faithful wife, a kind and affectionate sister, loyal to her church and to her God, Rest In Peace. It is sad that one we cherish should be taken from our home, but the joys that do not perish live in memory alone, all the years we spent together, all the happy golden hours shall be cherished in remembrance, fragrant sweets from memories flower.

POISONING DEATH
OF MIDLAND CITY
MATRON STUDIED
Mrs. Myrtie Mae York
Discovered By Emptied Phial Of
Fluid Nearby
MIDLAND CITY, November 25 (Special) – The victim of poison, Mrs. Myrtie Mae York, 29, was found sprawled on the kitchen floor of her home near here Saturday afternoon by Mrs. Lonnie Edwards, a neighbor, who had been summoned by Mrs. York’s six-year-old daughter, Carolyn.
The child told Mrs. Edwards her mother was "sick" and had taken some medicine and was alone at the house, her father having gone to Columbus, Georgia, to attend the Auburn-Georgia football game. Within 15 minutes after Mrs. Edwards reached her, the young farm matron was dead.
In the absence of Kenneth Holman, Dale County coroner in a Dothan hospital recovering from an operation, local physicians and Sheriff J. W. Helms made an investigation, the sheriff announcing they had not yet returned a report.
The investigation was slowed, Sheriff Helms said, because of the lack of evidence and witnesses, Mrs. York being alone at the time except for her daughter. An empty medicine bottle was found near her, containing only a few drops of an unidentified liquid.
Mrs. York is survived by her husband, Grady York; a son, Grady Donald York; a daughter, Carolyn; two sisters, Mrs. N. H. Rountree, Pinckard and Mrs. Wiley Thomley, Valdosta, Georgia; a brother, Willie E. Warren, Geneva; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Warren, Geneva.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Piney Grove Church with Mrs. Martha L. Joiner of Abbeville officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Houston Funeral Company in charge.
