Emil Brunner, a great German theologian of the
last century, famously declared, "The church exists for mission as a fire
exists for burning." When a church turns inward and considers only its own
needs, it begins to die.
We, the members and friends of Winfield Community
United Methodist Church, try to be faithful to our mission to the larger
church, both Methodist and ecumenical. We exist for mission. We faithfully pay
our apportionment to the Northern Illinois Conference every year, and we give
beyond that requirement and blessing by giving through the Rainbow
Covenant.
In 2006 we gave to eight bands of the rainbow,
allowing Winfield to continue as a Rainbow Covenant Church. In 2007, we will
have the opportunity to again be a Rainbow Covenant Church, giving to missions
by choosing from the needs listed below.
