Prayer Ministries
At First United Methodist Church, the
ministry of prayer is a vital component of our life together.
A PRAYER LIST is printed in the worship
bulletin each Sunday, and all those listed there are included in the prayers of
the congregation that day.
A PRAYER CHAIN, consisting of over 50
households, receives prayer requests, either via email or by telephone, and
offers prayer within the home.
In addition, we have a PRAYER QUILT
MINISTRY. Upon request, a prayer quilt is assembled for an individual needing
prayer and encouragement. That quilt is placed in the sanctuary for one week
and members of the congregation offer prayer over the quilt during that time.
At the end of the week, the quilt is delivered to the individual.
Ministries for Men and Women
First United
Methodist Church of Windsor has active units of both United Methodist Men and
United Methodist Women. These organizations provide fellowship and also do
fundraising in support of our congregation. The United Methodist Men sponsor
regularly-scheduled Men’s Fellowship Breakfasts on Sunday mornings that are open
to all men and young men of the church. The United Methodist Women sponsor
monthly “Soup and Salad” suppers and an annual Fall Bazaar. In addition, the
UMW remembers our shut-ins at holiday time and our college students around
Valentine’s Day.
Mission Ministries
The Missions
Committee of our church keeps us involved in addressing needs locally,
nationally and globally. The first portion of our Advent and Lent offerings is
designated for specific mission projects, and we are a covenant church with
Habitat for Humanity. We distribute food to needy families in Windsor every
Tuesday afternoon using food supplied by the CHOW Food Pantry of the Broome
County Council of Churches. In addition, we sponsor a Hunger Walk every Fall to
raise funds for CHOW and Windsor Human Development, and we are a covenant church
with the Lao United Methodist Church in Johnson City, New York. At holiday
time, the people of our congregation supply Windsor Human Development with over
70 gifts for needy children in our community.
Christian Education Ministries
First United
Methodist Church provides a Sunday School program for toddlers through adults,
which meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. from September through June. In
addition to learning the stories of faith from scripture, students learn music,
engage in craft activities and have their own special fellowship events. There
is an annual Christmas Pageant and the Sunday School year concludes with a “Fun
Festival” on the front lawn of the church. In addition, the pastor offers
various adult education opportunities during the week; check our church calendar
for the latest class offerings.
Worship Ministries
The Worship
Committee designs and implements sanctuary arrangements and narthex displays
that enhance our experience of worship throughout the year. The annual “hanging
of the greens” evening prepares our worship space for Advent and Christmas, and
Wednesday evening services throughout Lent focus our attention on the Cross of
Christ. The Prayer Quilt Ministry mentioned above is overseen by the Worship
Committee.
All of these ministries are pleased to
receive requests for persons within and beyond our church family. To access any
of these ministries, please contact either the Pastor or our office
coordinator.
