Jones, Marjorie Surface, Christine McFarland, Dee Ann Wilson, Leona Knorr, Todd
Treese, Gerald Klinkefus, Pastor Bob Culbertson and Julie Kennedy.
Devotions:
Todd Treese
Minutes:
Dee Ann Wilson called
to attention an error in the September minutes. Asked to change sentence in Pastor’s report as follows:
“Stewardship pertains to our work
within our own church.” Lined out.
Motion to approve by
Carroll Bidler, seconded by Jerry Jones.
Approved.
Pastor’s report:
Pastor Bob Culbertson presented a form to be returned to certify Todd
Treese as a Lay Minister. Motion to
approve by Larry Davis, seconded by Dee Ann Wilson. Approved.
Pastor Bob suggested
that the conference to be held November 8th at our church to be
changed to a “Church Conference” instead of a “Charge Conference”, this would
allow any members to attend instead of Administrative Council Members
only. There will be 5 or 6 churches in
attendance and we will need refreshments to serve. Dee Ann Wilson volunteered the Current Events Class to provide
refreshments. It will start at
approximately 12:30 or 1 p.m.. A joint
meeting will be held in the sanctuary and then will break into two or three
smaller groups.
Pastor Bob presented
the 2010 Leadership Report to Charge Conference list. After going over the list he made a motion for approval, seconded
by Mary Ann Jones. Approved.
Treasurers Report: Mary
Ann Jones went over figures in the September 30, 2009 Report. One figure she pointed out as “looking
questionable” was the negative figure in the Parsonage Maintenance account for
painting. Since it appears that the
funds received will cover this expenditure without borrowing funds to cover it,
we are letting it ride for the time being.
The Sargent Fund CD is due for renewal on 10/27/09 and again Mary Ann asked
for our input as to how to handle it.
She was told to go for the best rate with a time limit of a year or
less.
Finance:
No report.
Memorials: Leona Knorr asked for
suggestions on how to handle the purchase of the refrigerator for the East
Kitchen that was approved last month.
There is $700 memorial money still left in the name of Phyllis
Horton. She will contact Phyllis’
daughter, Kendra Parker, for approval.
Todd Treese volunteered to pick up the unit and so he was nominated to
buy a refrigerator similar to the other one that is in that kitchen.
Nurture:
Verlene Slack
reported that a Halloween Party will be held on October 31st from
1:30 to 3:00 p.m. This party is for
ages nursery through 6th grade.
There will be games, stories and treats. The children are encouraged to wear costumes.
Endowment:
Marge Surface reports
that Bonnie Corron, the organist, has asked that the church pay a $92 fee for
membership in the American Organist’s Guild (for continuing education). A motion for this was made by Dee Ann
Wilson, seconded by Leona Knorr.
Approved.
Finance: Jerry Jones reports that the
Annual Pledge Drive will be headed up by Jerry Ferguson and Scott Davis. The Drive will take place November 15th
through the 17th. A letter
will be going out to all members this week of next.
Jerry Jones
presented the Proposed Budget for 2010.
He explained why some of the figures appear different from the same line
items last year. Also line items were
added to the list in the Nurture section which allows for easier tracking of
funds in the future. Mary Ann Jones
made a motion that the Pastor Support figure of $51,000 per approved as
explained, seconded by Verlene Slack and it was approved. Jerry made a motion that the budget in the
amount $225,403 be approved, seconded by Larry Davis. Approved with the understanding that if sufficient funds are not
raised during the Pledge Drive adjustments must be made accordingly.
Staff Parish: No report.
Trustees:
Pat Lee left the
message that the previously approved windows and front door replacements will
be installed the week of October 26th.
UMW: Grace Olson reported that a luncheon was
provided for the Church Women United Group on October 12, 2009. A reminder that help will be needed starting
Sunday the 18th for set up for the Fall Rummage/Bake Sale. Racks will be brought in on Saturday but
tables will need to be set up on Sunday and help will also be needed for the
tear down on Friday the 23rd.
Fliers with information about out church will be put in the bags of
purchases during the sale.
Outreach:
Christine McFarland
reports that grocery baskets will be placed in the entry hallways for food
pantry donations. Mission trips are
planned for Kansas City, MO and Chatham, IL.
It has also been decided that the holiday offering this year will go 50%
to the Rainbow Covenant and 50% to Help for our Community. Carroll Bidler questioned whether more money
for the Help for our Community was appropriate since we still have a sizeable
amount in that fund. Perhaps that designation
should be discussed further.
Stewardship: No
report.
Proclamation: Gerald
Klinkefus reports that a special veterans recognition will be held on November
8th immediately following church.
Norm Jurgens will speak about his recent Honor Flight trip to
Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II memorial. Also, Jim Bowman a former Tuskegee Airman will speak.
Old Business: No report.
New Business: Pastor Bob
reported that a new men’s group has been proposed that would start with a fish
dinner in November.
Currently no meeting
is proposed in November.
