CHILDREN

Ages 4 through 5th grade meet in the West Fellowship Hall

Live BigHear, See and Live your belief in god

We will use this new updated Curriculum this year!  It is a lot like our Power X-press was, but with DVD’s every Sunday, workbooks,  and color posters, etc that go with each monthly unit.  We start with the Gathering and Music, then go on to our Classes.

MIDDLE SCHOOL – GRADES 6TH THROUGH 8TH

This year we are using new material titled Living B.i.g..  It is youth coming to know the love of God through Jesus.  It is music, art, laughter, discussion, entertainment, games, Bible stories, worship, prayer and much more.  Our hope is that the students grow as youth of God by taking what they learn during Sunday School into their everyday lives.  We extend a B.I.G. invitation for all Middle School students to join us.

Teachers:  Eleanor Bidler, Darci Hartman, Marilee Tabor, Harry Cannon

Substitutes:  Julie Hoshaw,

Room 108 E – Lower Level

SENIOR HIGH - 9TH THROUGH 12 GRADES

Senior High will be learning more about who Jesus is, starting at Creation, how he fits into their daily lives, and how to develop a

personal relationship with Him.  We will also be reviewing “Do Hard Things”, a book written by teens for teens.  This book submits that a growing movement of young people are rebelling against the low expectations of today’s culture by choosing to ‘do hard things’ for the Glory of God!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

CURRENT EVENTS CLASS -
We discuss any issue we choose that’s making news that we have read or heard. It may include world, state, local events; economy; immigration; global warming; religious happenings, conflicts and wars.  We attempt to connect these deliberations with the positions of the United Methodist Church, and discus the implications for what they mean for us individually as Christians.
In addition, we are committed to outreach programs and engaging in stewardship activities.Sometimes guest speakers are invited to hear perspectives on various topics.
All positions and beliefs on all topics are respected, and lively discourse often takes place.  Everyone is invited to attend and participate in this learning process that enriches our understanding of current events and its impact on our Christian lives.

SOURCES OF STRENGTH CLASS –  <>We will be using David Jeremiah’s book, Song of Life:  Back to the Basics of Authentic Christianity, as their study this fall.  He addresses the question “How does the world recognize us as God’s ambassadors?”  It is a biblical overview of what believing in Jesus does in a person’s life and provides a message for today’s church.

CHURCHES UNITED
–5 times a year Windsor prepares and serves dinner to a
homeless shelter at 15th & Mulberry, downtown Des Moines We serve every other month on the 25th  (except Christmas).

People donate food, cook the meal, then take it to the shelter at 5:15 pm.  This is a good outreach to others in a non-threatening environment.

Coordinator
:  Marilee Tabor

PRAYER CIRCLES

We have prayer circles who, when given names of those in need of prayers, will be contacted and have a circle of prayers for those people!  Call the Church office for prayer needs!  279-3629 or fill out Prayer Request Cards in the Sanctuary.
<>

SHAWL MINISTRY

Various church members knit or crochet Prayer Shawls on their own, for people we want recognize—health problems, lonely, for special events, nursing home, etc. all made with our prayers.  Do you know of someone who could use the comfort and joy of a Prayer Shawl?  Contact-Church office.

SHALOM ZONE

Shalom Zone is one of the umbrella group, based out of Gatchel UMC located on MLK Parkway, just north of Hickman, in the poorest neighborhood in the DSM area.  They provide after-school care, help the children with homework, and provide a positive influence from college students who donate time to help.  Local churches provide the evening meal.  Windsor cooks and serves the meal on the third Wednesday of each month, Sept. through May.  We are always seeking volunteers to cook and serve.  This is a great project that you may wish to take part in.

SUMMER WORK TRIPS 2009
