A Word from Bill

Bill Duke,
Windmill Community Spiritual Director
Pick Me, Pick Me!!!
After my walk to Emmaus I could not wait to serve on a team, but in
the Koinnia Community that I lived and worked in they had already
selected the next team. I was told that the Llano area needed a
clergy and so I applied and was accepted. I went to the team
meetings and anxiously awaited the date of the weekend and guess
what? The walk was cancelled because it did not meet the minimal
number of pilgrims. I was highly disappointed. I wanted to serve and
give back the blessing I had received.
What was God doing? It was like I was back in elementary school and
we were picking teams to play and I am raising my hand and shouting,
“Pick me, PICK ME!!!” and I wasn’t picked. You know, “the odd man
out” and when I am finally picked the bell rings and recess is over.
Eventually I did get on a team. It just wasn’t on my time. It was on
God’s time. So please do not be discouraged if you are not picked
the first time you apply. Try again. The first team I wanted to be
on was already picked and them the second cancelled. If it is your
third or fourth time please fill out a team selection form again. I
also want to suggest to you other ministries that are based upon the
Emmaus three day model like Chrysalis which is for youth and young
adults, Kairos, which is a Emmaus type prison ministry both in
Kenedy and Beeville ,and the Walk to Siloam for homeless men. All of
these Emmaus type weekends are going on within our on backyard of
the Windmill Emmaus Four Day Group. I have had the privilege to
serve on each of these ministries and have been blessed. Jesus told
his disciples in Matthew 9:37 & 38, “The harvest is plentiful but
the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send
out workers into his harvest field.” (NIV) Don’t give up Jesus has
picked you! Go and Serve.
Grace and Peace
Pastor Bill Duke
