Singles Affirm Life Together

SALT . . . is a good place to make new friends. Whether you are divorced, widowed, or have never been married, you are welcome to join this group. The average attendance on Wednesday evenings is 40.

SALT meets on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Williamsburg UMC, 500 Jamestown Road.  The evening begins with a covered dish dinner followed by a variety of  programs touching on  such concerns as personal growth, health, finances, self esteem, relationships, culture, buying an automobile or other issues that touch the life of a single person.  For  more  information,  contact Ann McGrath (645-4375)  or the church office (229-1771).      SALT is sponsored by Williamsburg UMC, but is open to all singles from all faiths. The membership includes people from as far away as Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Rappahanock, but most of the people are from Newport News, Hampton and Williamsburg.

Social activities are planned for most weekends . . . walking, biking, hiking, water rafting, canoeing, fishing, home parties, dances, movies, attending sports events and concerts, cruises, etc.

A Separation/Divorce Support Group meets for a period of six sessions about five times a year, with a professional counselor. The fee is included with your membership dues or, if you prefer, you may pay for the sessions and not come to the weekly meetings.

A membership fee is charged semi-annually in January and July to cover the cost of weekly programs and general operating expenses. The membership fee for the semester is $25. The semesters begin in January and July, but are pro-rated for new comers. Newcomers are not expected to join until they have visited a few times and are not expected to bring food to their first visit.

The Steering Committee, selected each semester, is responsible to the governing board, who establishes the policies for the group. They plan the weekly program and weekend social events, by accepting suggestions and volunteers from the total group.
