I am convinced that the average Christian simply does not pray enough. The bible says in Luke 18:1 "that man ought always to pray". Although I attend the early morning prayer service on a regular basis, I still feel as though I don't pray enough. We as Christians can make a difference in the land if we would only pray. The bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land". Maybe we don't pray as much as we should because we're not completely convinced about the power of prayer. In this teaching, We're going to examine some specific verses that illustrate The Power of Prayer.
1. Prayer protects us from our enemies
A prayer like the one Hezekiah prayed in Isaiah 37:14-20 protects us from our enemies. Hezekiah simply reminded God of how great he (God) is and how capable God is of defeating our enemies. As a result of Hezekiah's prayer, God slew over 5,000 Assyrians. Hezekiah and the children of Israel didn't have to lift a finger.
2. Prayer can add longevity to your life
A prayer like the one Hezekiah prayed in Isaiah 38:1-3 shows how the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man can cause God to add more time to a person's life. In this prayer, Hezekiah reminds God of his pure and perfect service record. He poured out his soul and wept before the Lord. The Lord added 15 more years to Hezekiah's life (Isaiah 38:4-5).
3. Prayer can do the impossible
A prayer like the one Hannah prayed in I Samuel 1:10-14 can cause the womb of a barren woman to become fruitful. Hannah poured out her soul and wept before the Lord. The Lord in I Samuel 1:19 remembered her and she conceived a man-child. God gave her exactly what she asked for. An earnest prayer like Elias in James 5:17 caused God to stop the rain for 3.5 years. It did not rain again until Elias prayed for rain (James 5:18).4. Prayer can open up prison bars
An unceasing prayer like the church in Acts 12:5,12 can deliver a child of God out of prison. An angel came down from heaven and freed Peter. Paul and Silas prayed at midnight in Acts 16:25 and the Lord caused a great earthquake to shake the prison bars open.Truly, prayer does change things. If each christian would make a commitment to pray more, this world would see an awesome move of God.
