Pastor Robert Sorozan
Pastor Robert D. Sorozan was appointed to this congregation on July 1, 2003. He has served congregations in the Hudson River Valley and Long Island. This is his first appointment in Connecticut.
Dr. Sorozan is a graduate of Cornell University, where he studied Plant Science. Following his graduation he worked on fruit farms in the Hudson Valley and eventually became a Cooperative Extension Agent. In this work, he assisted local fruit growers as they faced the challenges of modern agriculture. He also hosted an early morning radio program, “The Fruit Growers Report”, on a local station.
The call to ministry was unexpected. Bob and his wife, Terri, were very active in their local United Methodist Church. They served as advisors to the United Methodist Youth Fellowship and Bob served as a Sunday school teacher and Lay Speaker. He felt the call to the ministry but resisted. Eventually, God won out and he could resist the call no longer.
Bob attended New York Theological Seminary in Manhattan. While in Seminary, he served as Student Pastor in the Holmes/Wiccopee and Tarrytown charges of the United Methodist Church. In addition to Seminary, Bob completed the Pastoral Counseling training program at the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. He also holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Direction from the Graduate Theological Foundation.
While serving as Pastor of the North Shore United Methodist Church on Long Island, Bob faced one of his greatest challenges. Shortly after his arrival, the church building was destroyed by fire. The next five years were spent in rebuilding the church and supporting the parishioners as they struggled with their loss. The new sanctuary was dedicated in September of 1996.
Bob has been active as a Spiritual Director on various United Methodist and ecumenical retreats. He is also very active in local ecumenical groups. His interest in spirituality has prompted him to write articles for the Upper Room, an international devotional magazine.
While serving as a Pastor, Bob has participated in the life of the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served on various committees and conference boards. He has served both district and conference committees on ordained ministry. He has also served on the United Methodist Camps Governing Board.
Bob and Terri have two grown children. They enjoy roller coasters and theme parks. They also enjoy hiking together. Bob plays the guitar and is also an active model railroader. He swims regularly at a local pool.
Pastor Sorozan preaches at the Sunday morning worship service at Copper Hill and West Granby. He believes that worshiping God can be fun and very enjoyable. He looks forward to seeing you there.
