Weston United Methodist Church - MISSIONS COMMITTEE

There are so many hurting in the world.  Can a small church in the suburbs make a difference?  Our congregation in Weston is making a formidable effort.

Nicaragua Covenant:  Weston UMC strongly supports the Nicaragua Covenant between the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church and Iglesia de Cristo de Nicaragua.  Through this partnership, we support programs focusing on health, education, and self-sufficiency.

Sister Church in Maranatha, Nicaragua:  Our church has been blessed by this partnership which has become a relationship of solidarity, accompaniment, friendship and spiritual growth.  A delegation from Weston UMC will be visiting our sisters and brothers in Maranatha this coming June.

Sister Church to St. Andrews UMC in Jamaica Plain, MA:  Through this sister church connection, our church families are in mission to one another as we share struggles, victories, faith journeys and the Gospel.

Bristol Lodge, Waltham, MA:  WUMC volunteers prepare and serve a full course meal once a month for the hungry in the basement of the Imanuel UMC in Waltham feeding approximately 60 ~ 80 individuals per month.

Your faith-inspired generosity is greatly appreciated by our hungry brothers and sisters in Waltham.  We share the love of Christ with them each month on our serving day at Bristol Lodge.  You can contribute one or more food items, or assist with reheating or serving the meal.  And please keep this outreach ministry of caring in your prayers.

Down East Maine Blueberry Mission

This program serves over 12,000 migrant workers during the blueberry—picking season, many of whom do not speak English.  Rakers are provided with warm blankets, personal care kits, and Bibles, along with spiritual and emotional support including nightly worship services in Spanish.  Through the WUMC missions budget, we’ve supported with $500.  Here is part of the thank you letter we received:

“We would like to thank you for your assistance in this very

necessary and important ministry.  Each year as I participate in

the camp worship services and have the opportunity to see the

faces of our brothers and sisters in Christ worshiping, singing

and praising the Lord in Spanish or other languages, I am

reminded how small our world is.  We are very different, many

cultures, but at the same time very much alike, Christians, as we

reflect that gentle love of our Master.”

Hope Flower School, Palestine:  We maintain contact via e-mail with school leaders at Hope Flower School and also provide financial support.  Members of our congregation were blessed with the opportunity to visit this school which has historically promoted joint projects between the school children of Hope and Jewish children from Israel.

Watch Community Development Corporation, Waltham, MA Weston UMC provides financial assistance to Watch CDC as it provides the community with services including affordable housing, English for employment, and career exploration classes.

Christian Children’s Fund:  We continue to support Sukanya, a young girl from India.  We have the opportunity to exchange letters with her, while our annual gift provides her with medical, educational, and nutritional services.
