Monday Night Bible Study
Parables from the Back Side
Ellsworth Kalas provides new insight into twelve of Jesus' parables by entering them through the "back side" - through the eyes of a minor or unsympathetic character. By approaching the stories in this way, Kalas releases new meaning and clarifies basic teachings.

The study will meet in the Parsonage on Monday evenings at 7:30 pm.

Tuesday Morning Study Group

Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian, by Rob Bell will be the focus of discussion for the Tuesday Morning Class, beginning Tuesday May 6.

From Publishers Weekly
This introduction to the Christian faith is definitely outside the usual evangelical box. Bell wants to offer "a fresh take on Jesus"—a riff that begins with the assertion that Jesus wanted to "call people to live in tune with reality" and that he "had no use for religion." Bell invites seekers into a Christianity that has room for doubts (his church recently hosted an evening where doubters were invited to ask their hardest, most challenging questions).

Previous Study Groups

The Thirteen Apostles, a study book by Ellsworth Kalas, January - April 2008

You may have thought there were only twelve apostles.  Who was Jesus' thirteenth apostle?  And what about the other twelve?

Please come to the Tuesday Morning Class which meets in the church parlor from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.  Rev. Melius is group leader

Strong was Her Faith - Women of the New Testament

Sessions will meet each Tuesday, at 9:30 am.

The book, by J. Ellsworth Kalas, focuses on several women of great faith who were crucial, in ways both obvious and understated, to the story of the New Testament. In twelve chapters, the author looks into the life and times of eleven different women. (Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the focus of two chapters.) Kalas examines the Scriptures to see what we can learn about these women and what we can learn from them, and how each woman fit into as well as shaped the New Testament story.

Chapters include:
“Elizabeth: A Friend in Need” (Luke 1:39-45)
“Anna: She Knew How to Wait” (Luke 2:36-38)
“Martha, the Disciplined” (Luke 10:38-42; John 11:1-27)
“Mary, the Extravagant” (John 12:1-8)
“The Mighty Widow” (Mark 12:41-44)
“The Anonymous Evangelist” (John 4:7-29, 39-42)
“Mary Magdalene: When Love Is Greater than Faith” (John 20:1-18)
“Mary, the Mother of Mark” (Acts 12:6-17)
“Dorcas: Worth a Miracle” (Acts 9:36-42)
“Lydia, the Businesswoman (Acts 16:11-15, 40)
“Mary in Life and Legend” (Luke 1:46-55)
“Why Mary?” (Luke 1:26-38).
