WHAT COLOR THIS SEASON?
WHITE:
Used during Christmas and Easter seasons, on high days during ordinary time, and sometimes at weddings/funerals. PURPLE: The color of both penitence and royalty: used during Advent and Lent, and sometimes at funerals. (An alternate color for Advent is blue.)RED
: The color of fire, symbolizing the Holy Spirit and used on the Day of Pentecost and at other times when the work of the Holy Spirit is being emphasized.GREEN:
The color of growth is used in the seasons of ordinary time after Epiphany and Pentecost except when special days call for white and red. Also during the ordinary time after the Pentecost—a wide range of colors from light greens into the earthy dark tones of brown may be used to coincide with time of year.Some also use green at funerals.
