BOY SCOUT TROOP 426
CUB SCOUT PACK 426
After becoming the minister of Wesley United Methodist church in
1988, Rev. Freddie C. Henderson Sr., contacted Mr. Elbert Hill in regard to
starting a Scouting Ministry. On April 26, 1989 (4-26 = 426), Cub Scout Pack
426 and Boy Scout Troop 426 was chartered by the Boy Scouts of America.
In 1992, our Troop and Pack were formally adopted by the Baton Rouge Police
Department, and the Southern University Department of Bands. We are in the
Sewell-Eagle District, which is the largest district in the Istrouma Area Boy
Scout Council.
Our Scouting Committee consists of Mrs. Faye Ross-Chairperson, and Committee
Members Mrs. Elmira Beal, and Mrs. Catherine Hopkins. Our annual $22.00
registration fee is one of the lowest in the council. Our year round scouting
program includes the only summer trip in the council for Scouts and their family
members. We travel by plane, and deluxe motor coach to places like; Washington
D.C., Atlanta, Ga., and the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee.
Boy Scout Popcorn sale is the only annual fundraiser we have, and each
scout is required to sell a minimum of $75.00 worth of popcorn. Family members
and scouts pay less than 50% of the total cost of our annual summer trips, the
remaining expense is paid from the profit off the sell of popcorn.
CUB SCOUT PACK 426
Mrs. Dianne Hill is the chartered Cub Scoutmaster for boy's 1st - 5th grades.
It is Very Important That Parents participate in their son's scouting
activities. This is the only way that he will be able to take full advantage of
our Cub Scout program. Cub Scout activities consist of advancement in rank,
parades, family campouts, pinewood derby race, and craft work. The Arrow Of
Light is the highest rank that a Cub Scout can earn, and NO Cub Scout will
be transferred to our Boy Scout Troop if he hasn't earned this award.
BOY SCOUT TROOP 426
Mr. Elbert Hill is the chartered Boy Scoutmaster for boys 6th
grade - 17 years of age. Our troop has the only Boy Scout Color Guard and Drum
Corps unit in the state. This unit has performed in parades, and at basketball
and football games at Southern University, and Louisiana State
University. The unit has also won a number of marching competition awards.
Our troop has a year round camping program, and has produced 16 Eagle Scouts
from 1994 - 2002.
