Miracle on 18th StreetWESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
A WELCOMING CONGREGATION IN WEST TEXAS

What's Happening?

Wesley United Methodist Church is celebrating it's 105th Church Anniversary during the month of March 2008. This is a celebration that is much more than a mere count of years. Despite our size, we are known as a progressive and ministry-rich congregation. From a congregation of community leaders in our formative years to a United Methodist Youth ministry that helped to shape a generation to ongoing ministries that lovingly reach out to hundreds of San Angeloans on a weekly basis, Wesley is celebrating 105 years of worship and ministries as the Body of Christ in San Angelo.

  • Anniversary Celebration
We might not look like it, but we just celebrated 103 years of praise and service in the name of Jesus Christ. A special worship service on March 30, 2008 gave our members the opportunity to celebrate God's grace and mercy with friends and family. The worship was made even more special by the participation and support of the members and choir of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Kerrville. The Reverend Charles Biggs brought the celebratory message.

As we celebrated our 103rd Church Anniversary, there was nothing left for us to say but, "Thanks be to God for His indescribable gifts!" However, now that this day of celebration has past, we return to the task of sharing our faith stories with a hungry and hurting world. We are 103 years old for so much more than a celebration. God has us here for a reason!

  • Welcoming Congregation Certification
Wesley United Methodist Church receives Igniting Ministries certification
In February, Wesley UMC received its first-year Welcoming Ministries Certification. Though we have always been a welcoming congregation, this certification affirms that ministries, worship practices, ongoing programs, and other activities help to ensure that we continue to be welcoming.

Through the process of becoming a Welcoming Congregation, we discovered even more ways that we can make ours a congregation that first-time visitors remember and yearn to revisit. As with many United Methodist congregations in the San Angelo District, we already had sufficient "points" to earn the certification. However, in reviewing them, we found even more that we could do...mostly at very little or no cost to the church.

As our congregation continues to grow, we continually look to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and opportunities, such as Welcoming Congregation Certification, to help us express and share God's love that is within us..
