You Are Welcome Here
Open to the Skeptic, the Seeking, the
Disillusioned, the Follower, and everything in between.
...Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you,
brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage
the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure
that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is
good for each other and for everyone else. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray
continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will

“HELP
THANKS WOW”
Rev. Patricia Warden
Acts 2:1-21
New International Version (NIV)
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
2 When the day of
Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound
like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole
house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of
fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were
filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a]
as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying
in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When
they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because
each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they
asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it
that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes
and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and
Asia,[b]
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;
visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and
Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”
12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They
have had too much wine.”
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his
voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in
Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the
morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious
day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Questions about our worship service.
Children’s
Church –
THE CHILDREN’S TIME - As the children make their way to the
front of the sanctuary, please join the choir in singing Jesus Loves Me.
Following Children’s Time there is Children’s Church for children under
5 years-old.
A NURSERY
is available in the education building during Sunday School and Worship
for infants/toddlers. Just ask a greeter or usher.
Nursery Workers
/ Children’s Church:
When do we have communion at Wesley Memorial
UMC?
Am I welcome to Communion? (Lord's Supper or Eucharist) Yes. All are
welcome to take part in Communion. You do not have to be a member of
Wesley Memorial UMC to participate. Typically, our church celebrates
communion on the first Sunday of each month.
Communion Overview United Methodist Church
Did you know that grape juice, as we know it today, was created by a
Methodist Communion steward, Thomas Welch, who sought to provide an
alternative to wine used in Holy Communion? Read on to learn why
United Methodist churches continue to favor the “unfermented
juice of the grape.”
Children’s Church
– following “Children’s Time” in the worship service.
Children ages 5 and under are invited to participate in a lesson, music,
prayer, and offertory. They may be picked up after Worship in the
Education Building
How can persons become
Members?
By Confession of Faith—this process marks the initial entrance into
membership in the Church, when one confesses faith in Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior. By Reaffirmation of Faith—renewing our confession
of faith after a period of inactivity or not being on a church
membership role. Transfer of Membership—you may be joining from
another United Methodist Church or a Christian church of another
denomination. We recognize baptism from all other Christian
churches.
Questions:
Most Important - We want your experience with
Wesley Memorial to be an enjoyable, inviting and lasting one. We are
here for you. We want to provide a church family that allows you to
become closer to God and helps you live a Christ-filled life.
What Should I wear?
We know you might be worried
about wearing the right thing when you come to church; we invite you
to come as you are. Whether you are more comfortable in jeans
and a t-shirt, polo and khakis, or a suit and tie, you'll fit right
in at Wesley Memorial. No matter what your personal style, you’ll be
comfortable at wesley Memorial Church. If you prefer dressy,
business, or casual attire, chances are there will be others dressed
much like you no matter when you visit. The most common form of dress
could be best described as “casual.” Most of the folks at the
Comtemporary Worship Service at 9 a.m. will be dressed casual.
Where is the Nursery? - It is on the first floor of
the Education Building (follow breeze-way at front of church). As
you enter the door you will be facing an elevator. The nursery is
the second door on the right. The nursery opens at 9:45 a.m.
Can my child stay with me during the service?
Your Child is always welcome to stay with you during service.
Where do I park? Park along Heyward Street or Queen Street. Both
sides can be used and you should find ample space. Handicap spaces
are directly in front of the sanctuary on the Heyward Street side
and on the west side on Queen Street.
Will greeters or others be on hand to help me? Greeters will greet
you when you enter, provide you with a worship program that tells
everything that is happening in the service.
Can I meet the Pastor? The Pastor would love to
meet you! Pastor Sipes will be in the foyer after worship every
Sunday morning to personally greet our guests and they ask that you
take a moment to stop and say hello. If you would like a more
in-depth visit with the Pastor, please call the church office
803-771-4540 to set up a time for a personal visit or phone call
803-771-4540
Email Pastor Sipes.
