Our Staff

Rev. David G Porterfield -David is the newest campus minister to serve as the on-site Pastor to students, staff, and faculty of Lamar University assigned by the United Methodist Church. 

He began his ministry to the campus in June of 2003 after serving in various congregations and capacities throughout East Texas.

David grew up in Abilene Texas, and is married to Ava Thompson Porterfield.  They have 3 children.  Mark is still at home in seventh grade, and Daniel and Aliece are students at Texas A&M University.

Melissa Martin -

Cora Phelps -

Cora has been administrative assistant at the Wesley Foundation for thirteen years. She  is a member of First United Methodist in Groves and has attended there for twenty years. Cora has served in numerous positions at her church, including chairperson of the nurture and staff-parish relationship committees.  She is currently membership secretary and a district lay leader.

Cora has worked as a lay person in the U.M.C. since 1980. She considers her work her ministry, and always finds time for those who need someone to talk to.
