Introduction
Greetings! Welcome to Wesley United Methodist Church. As Associate Pastor it is my duty to give leadership and support as requested by the Senior Minister and be involved in the overall activities of the church with special interest in Men’s ministry.
Personal History
I am a native Delawarean, having grown up in Millsboro in Sussex County. I graduated from Millsboro High School and attended Wesley Junior College here in Dover. Upon graduation from Wesley, I went to West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, West Virginia, and graduated in 1955. I then attended Wesley Theological Seminary, now located in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1958. While attending seminary, I was student pastor of the Magnolia and Bowers Beach Methodist Churches, in addition to Barratt’s Chapel.
Upon graduation from seminary and ordination as an elder in the Peninsula Annual Conference ( now Peninsula-Delaware), I transferred to the Pittsburgh Annual Conference (now Western Pennsylvania Conference). Serving for 38 years in Western Pennsylvania, my six appointments varied from suburban, urban, to two college town churches: Ingomar, Fox Chapel, California, Greenstone (Bellevue), Clarion and Monroeville. I retired in 1996 and moved back to Delaware.
Upon our return to Delaware, we associated ourselves with Wesley Church and I joined the Wesley staff in 1999, after a brief interim stint in late 1997.
Barbara, a native of Rochester, Pennsylvania, and I have been married for fifty-one years and are the parents of three married daughters: Denise (and Curtis) Brosius, Magnolia, DE, Leslie (and David) Helfgott, Vienna, VA, and Karen (and Dirk) Vandermeer, Clarion, PA. Our eight grandchildren range in age from 6 to 18: Leah, Seth, Joel, Luke Brosius; Nathan and Rachel Helfgott; Gretchen and Drew Vandermeer.
We would welcome you to Wesley Church and hope you would enjoy your experience at Wesley as much as we have.
