WELLSBORO DISTRICT MISSION PROJECTS
Sharing through Designated Giving
In addition to other apportioned funds, United Methodists share God's
gifts through two designated giving programs and six churchwide Special
Sundays with Offerings and other recommended offerings.
The Advance for Christ and His Church
Gifts to the Advance are designated by the donor to specific approved
projects of the General Board of Global Ministries projects approved by
the Advance Committee of the General Council on Ministries. Selected
projects get 100 percent of contributed dollars -- with administrative
costs being paid by World Service.
Advance giving often is called "second mile" giving because the "first
mile" priority is for local churches to pay 100 per cent of their World
Service and conference benevolence.

THE WELLSBORO DISTRICT GOOD SAMARITAN FUND was formed in 1988 after recognizing the need for churches in the Wellsboro District to assist community members experiencing crisis, tragedy or those in need of assistance. The Wellsboro District will maintain a commitment to serving the community through the Good Samaritan Fund by:
1. Providing direct aid to families in times of crisis.
2. Support for programs which already assist those in the community who are experiencing difficulties.
3. Seed money to begin new outreach programs to individuals and families of the community who are in need of assistance especially programs dealing with children.
Disbursements from the Good Samaritan Fund are made through requests directed to the District Superintendent from local churches and/or clergy. All contributions received for this fund are kept in this account solely for use within the Wellsboro District of the Central Pennsylvania Conference.
Donations should be made payable to “Central PA Conference” indicating that the check is for the “Good Samaritan Fund” and sent to

MERCY KASAMBIRA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND provides assistance to international and ethnic minority students attending Mansfield University, Mansfield, Pennsylvania. It is the hope that these students can return to their native countries and assist in the development of their countries.
The fund is named in memory of one of our conference pastors whose native country is Zimbabwe and who took great interest in the development of Africa University. The Rev. Mercy Kasambira graduated from Mansfield University. Her ministry in the District ended prematurely by an untimely and tragic death. Her Christian life and work is memorialized thorough this mission enterprise.
Originally named the Africa Student Scholarship Fund when created in 1989, the fund has provided financial assistance for five students during the 10 years of existence. These students have been from Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Malawa, and Liberia.
All inquires about the ministry and donations to the ministry should be directed to Wellsboro District Office, 35 Fair View Acres Road, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania 16901.
