The saga of our
Henderson Settlement
trips begins.

Six guys This is every one but Fred, who left earlier. We are about ready to leave Webberville.

Perched on a ridge This is our arrival at Henderson Settlement. The dorm is the light gray roof that is slightly over the hill on the right. The far building is the elementary school which is now run buy the school district rather than the Settlement.  The white building on the left was the old high school, but now serves other community functions which include a senior center.

A view into the hollow This is another view of the dorm - approaching from the same end as in the view above.  That is a cattle barn at the bottom of the hill.

bunk beds and guys This is our little end of the dorm which holds 32.  On the other side of the wall are 32 beds for the women.  Up stairs is the same lay out.

On to the chow hall

This is the view from the other end of the dorm (the end in which we slept). Bill is walking toward the chow hall. Small rise to chow hall

This is the chow hall from our door.  There seems to be a little rise in every direction (and I suppose there must be a little drop too.) Chow hall

It was a hard first day.  The group is resting and waiting for the first evening meal.  I got up from joining Bill long enough to take a picture.  In the back ground is the elementary school which serves the area.  We had to be sure to keep the drive clear at morning chow line for busses and cars to pass. Standing and lying in line

This is what a chow line looks like.  The line moves fast when the door opens.  This was a beautiful foggy morning in a beautiful part of Kentucky. waiting in the fog

Inside the chow hall is a pleasant place to dine. You can see young and old in this corner of the chow hall.  You can almost make out Bill seated near the center of this photo.  At the tables

Time for devotions

View of outdoor devotion area The outdoor devotions took place on this hill side which is just before the dorm in the first picture on this page.
evening devotions We had evening devotions on the day of our arrival, however, we usually began the day with devotions. This is the evening view.  The cows joined us (behind the crosses) that first evening.
Here come Bill and Richard.  It must be windy - a song book seems to have gotten away from that young man behind Rich.
