"....God loved the world so
much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him
may not be lost but may have eternal life. For God sent his Son into
the world not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world
might be saved. No one who believes in him will be condemned; but
whoever refuses to believe is condemned already, because he has refused
to believe in the name of God's only Son"
John 3:16 through 18
from The Jerusalem Bible

"So I say to you: Ask,
and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For the
one
who asks always receives; the one who searches always finds; the one
who
knocks will always have the door opened to him. What father among you
would
hand his son a stone when he asked for bread? Or hand him a snake
instead
of a fish? Or hand him a scorpion if he asked for an egg? If you then,
who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much
more
will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

"Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things."
