The Washington Street Church Child Development Center (WSUMC CDC) full-day, quality child development program for ages six weeks through the four/five year old class provides many outstanding features including:

Full-day program hours 7:30 am - 6:00 p.m.
ABC Level A and NAEYC Accredited
Licensed by DSS and operates under the applicable federal, state, and local laws
Christian environment
A developmentally-appropriate curriculum
Educational development taught through centers including computers, art, music, science, and language arts with emphasis in the High Scope Approach
Low child to teacher ratio
Separate playground areas for different age groups
Nutritious snacks
Centrally located in the downtown Columbia, SC area
Key pad entry security system
Video camera system in each room and outdoor play areas

Mission:

Our goal is to enhance each child's social, emotional, language, cognitive, physical, and spiritual growth by providing a developmentally appropriate environment that fosters each child's potential through respect, love, and play.

Program:

The WSUMC CDC applies developmentally appropriate teaching methods and techniques. Play is the language of children and the foundation of quality preschools. We promote optimal development by helping children work on the following needs:

Establishing a sense of trust and safety
Developing a sense of autonomy with connectedness
Developing a sense of empowerment and efficacy
Developing an appreciation of diversity among people
Constructing the foundations of morality and social responsibility
Having opportunities for meaningful play

The learning environment is rich, varied, warm, stimulating and safe for a young child's healthy development.

The Washington Street Church CDC is the second full-time child care program in Richland County to be NAEYC accredited. In the United States only five percent of child care programs have received this accreditation.

Our Classrooms:

Each classroom is arranged by interest areas, creatively organized to foster growth, imagination, creativity, and independence. Teachers design weekly lesson plans for each classroom to meet the children's interests and needs. Activities are planned through centers which include science, dramatic play, language arts, music, art, blocks, and more.

Daily reports posted outside the classroom detail the children's learning experiences and activities. Parental involvement is always encouraged.
