Vernon United Methodist Church
Annual Report of the Worship Committee
2008

Throughout this past year, the Worship Committee has tried to enhance our worship experiences in varying ways so that we may experience a variety of ways in which to praise and honor the Lord whom we worship. Some aspect of seasonal services have been changed slightly to reinforce the worship experience while at the same time keeping many of the traditional ways that we are accustomed to.

The Women's Communion Breakfast was again well attended and quite successful. Having the Rev. Heidi Chamberland as our guest speaker was quite a meaningful time for all. This long running event celebrated its' 35th year and we look forward to continuing this time honored tradition.

Soup, Sandwiches, and Study groups were held during both Lent and Advent seasons. All who attended came away from those times with new insight and understanding of some of the many ways we experience Jesus on a daily basis.

Monthly, we incorporate a wide range of special features that honor people, places and events as they occur on local, national or global levels. Methodists do pride themselves on being "connectional" with our Brothers and Sisters in Christ and we strive to do our part.

We as a congregation and individually have been blessed with Pastor Roberta as our spiritual leader. Her wit and wisdom in leading us in our services have added greatly to our worship experiences One of the biggest challenges we have faced as a congregation is the temporary relocation of the sanctuary into the Fellowship Hall, Though we consolidated down to eight rows of pews, this togetherness has truly brought us closer together; it has let us worship in a slightly different manner and experience the closeness of the Holy Spirit in a way in which we have not in the recent past.

As this liturgical year is coming to an end and the New Year not too far off, there are already many plans in the works; some carry on with our traditional ways and means while others hopefully will challenge and encourage you to seek Jesus in new and exciting ways.

As always, we are glad to hear feedback from you. What did you like? What did you not like? What would you like to see happen that would strengthen your worship experience? Let us know so that we may be better servants for the Lord.

As chairman, I would like to thank all the members of the committee for the past year of hard work and dedicated service to the congregation and to Jesus Christ. And in the coming year, may the Love of the Father, the strength of Jesus Christ and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit fill your very being with Blessings of Peace and Hope!
