The beginning of 2008 had the Trustees working on finalizing the plans for the repair work to the sanctuary roof and dealing with the everyday maintenance of the facility. We worked closely with the congregation in exploring and developing the list of alternatives that we would strive to achieve with the funds available. Working with the Finance Committee, we were able to obtain a building loan to supplement the remaining portion of the construction costs.
Several years of planning and saving finally paid off as we got the repair work under way in August. Who could have foreseen or planned on how to deal with an unexpected inquiry into the sale of the property. When this opportunity presented itself on our doorstep, we joined with the congregation as we looked into the validity of the offer and how it might impact us. Coincidentally, it happened at a time when we were encountering some construction issues with the repair work. So we paused on the construction to evaluate and decide on the next course of action. Well, the sale offer has disappeared and the course of action has been decided upon to resume the construction and that is where we are at the time of this report.Springtime saw a couple of work projects completed. A crew of us turned into lumberjacks for a day and cleared out a couple of trees. Then just before the spring pot roast dinner, the old water heater decided to spring a leak and we had to replace the unit in time for dinner. Having great responsive vendors is always a God send. The big difference it made was that the cleaning crew did not have to boil washing and rinsing water - there was plenty available right out of the faucet.
With the construction project and the sales offer, we decided to put on hold several of the other outstanding repair and improvement projects around the church. Once the repairs are done and we know what remaining funds are available, we will prioritize the projects and start again.
As chairman. I would like to thank all the members of the committee for their hard work and dedicated service this past year to this congregation and to Jesus Christ, our Lord as we strove to be faithful stewards of this facility.
