The purpose of the Vernon United Methodist Church is to be an all-inclusive community of caring Christians, guided by God's Holy Word and who, by our worship, fellowship, service, mission, and conduct, will promote the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Our congregation averages about 30 in attendance on Sunday morning, with a fairly even distribution of age groups. (Demographics) We have both voice and chime choirs that enrich our worship. In addition to Sunday morning, we have regular small study groups that meet at various times during the year. Many of these are 4-6 week sessions covering Biblical topics as well as other topics dealing with the Christian life. In 1997-98 we held a DISCIPLE Bible study which took us through the entire Bible in 34 sessions.
We hold occasional community suppers that provide hearty and tasty meals to members of the community.

Like most Methodist churches, the Vernon United Methodist Church had its origin as a home church called a class meeting. The first class meeting was held in the year l852. The class was connected with Rockville Station church until l856 when it was transferred to the North Manchester church. Our church building was purchased in l864 from the Universalist Church in Bolton and moved to its present location on Route 30 in Vernon. In l982 a building Study Committee was formed to provide additional Sunday School space and other need facilities. We finished an addition in January, l989. Since then we have enjoyed steady growth in attendance, membership and program activity.
The year 2002 marked the 150th anniversary of our church. Click on the links below to view pictures of two of the ways we celebrated.
