School Bag Project - 2001 VIM Teams

We, the Haiti Partnership, are making an effort to take enough school bags for each child at the Verrettes and Petit Guoave Schools in Haiti next year. There are 600 plus children in these two schools. Should our efforts exceed that of these two schools, the John Wesley School, Jeremie Haiti have expressed a similar need.

The John Wesley School also has nearly 500 children attending. Every school that we are making school bags for provide elementary education for grades one through six. Please note the following:

School Bags

1 Piece of sturdy material cut 13" by 32" - Water resistant - If Possible!

2 Pieces of material cut 4" by 18".

Fold 13" x32" in half - stitch side seams and hem 1" on top to make a 12" by 15" bag. Fold should be the bottom of the bag.

Fold 4" strips - 1" to center on each side and then in half to make a strap

1" x 18". Sew strap to hem of bag - one strap to each side.

When the bag is complete, fill with:

2 pads 8 ½ x11" ruled yellow

1 pair blunt scissors

1 12" ruler

1 pencil sharpener (not wall mounted) the small ones.

6 pencils with erasers - unsharpened.

1 eraser 2 ½" size

12 sheets colored construction paper.

1 package of colored pencils

When the bags are complete, fold down the top and secure with elastic (rubber) bands. These bags will be taken to Haiti as part of our luggage.
