BOX FOR SERVICEMAN: Otto and Vivian Lind's son-in-law, David Wenkel, is in Iraq for 7 months and a goodie box is being prepared for him. We are collecting any of the following items: [Magazines (Health, Car, Sports, Readers Digest, etc.), whitening toothpaste, acne medicine, face moisturizer, shower soap, gum, candy, granola bars, health bars, boxed cookies, crackers, Pringles and other canister style snacks, microwave popcorn, Mac & Cheese, Hormel pasta bowls, cards and letters of encouragement.] Donations may be dropped off here at the church any time. We will send them as we fill a box. Anything we send him will be shared and passed around with the other service personnel. Thank you kindly!

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH: This is a reminder from Carol that October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Don't hesitate to verbalize or show your appreciation to Than and Pete for all that they do!

"ACCESS" NEEDS HANDYMAN SKILLS: ACCESS 6 [A Kent County organization where churches cooperate to provide emergency care] has many people who could use a "handy man/woman" for minor repairs in their homes and on their automobiles. If you have carpentry, electrical or plumbing skills, you would be an answer to prayer. Also, they have those needing minor car repairs. Please call 949-1360 to volunteer.

VERGENNES WOMEN INVITED TO LOWELL UNITED METHODIST WOMEN MEETING: The Lowell United Methodist Women have extended an invitation to the Vergennes women to their fall U.M.W. Meeting and Potluck Dinner on Saturday, October 29 at 12:00 Noon in the basement dinning room at the Lowell UMC. Table service will be provided. The program will be given by Jean Esterline and Phyllis Bieri on "All Saints Day". If you wish, you may come dressed in costume, but it is not required. Any questions call Greta Parsons @ 897-9160.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES DO "FALL CLEANING": The Board of Trustees cleaned some closets and you may help yourself to any of the items sitting beneath the coat rack in Celebration Hall.

COME MAKE APPLESAUCE AT THE CHURCH WED., OCT. 19 FROM 9-3: Bring your own apples and paring knife. Pans, baggies, and other needed equipment will be supplied. Call Angie Anderson @ 897-6754 to RSVP or if you have questions.

HAITI MISSION TRIP UPDATE: We have just received word from the missionaries that visiting teams may now resume with their plans. Thus, there is a window of time to go to HAFF in February or early March. Please let Pastor Than know if you are interested in making plans to go for a 7-10 day visit.

SNACKS FOR YOUTH GROUPS: Pastor Pete needs parents to provide snacks for Sunday night youth meetings. Thanks for signing up today on the bulletin board. Thanks!

NEW ADDRESSES: Dave & Rhonda Fosburg and family have a new address! They are moving to 884 Parnell, SE, Ada, MI 49301. Their telephone remains 897-0323.

Greg & Amy Stielstra and family are moving south on Oct. 23. Their new address is: 909 Miranda Place, Franklin, Tennessee 37067. [REQUEST FOR HELP: Greg already moved to his new job, and Amy could really use some strong help tomorrow Monday, Oct. 17 to move things down from the attic. Please call her: 676-4050.]

SPIRITUAL LEADERS ACADEMY: Earlier this year, Pastor Than was accepted into the Spiritual Leaders Academy being provided through a Lily Foundation grant. He is going down to Asbury Seminary on Wednesday for the first segment [four days in length] of the academy. This training will continue twice a year for the next three years. This academy is being provided through a grant from the Lily Foundation. Than and the other pastors will be studying John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, and his model of discipleship along with contemporary leadership training.

Matters of Prayer, Thanksgiving & Celebrations:



· Blessing over our 40 Days of Community continuing [Oct. 9 ~ Nov. 20] and over the small groups that began meeting last week.

· Blessing over Dan and Stacy [Webb] Bretzlaff who were married here yesterday afternoon.

· Strength for the Stielstra family moving to Nashville next weekend and pray that their home here will sell in God's time.

· Blessing over Pastor Than as he goes to Asbury Seminary on Wednesday for the Spiritual Leaders Academy.

· Safety over the church and neighborhood in the wake of recent break-ins. Thank you for helping us here by locking all doors behind you if you're the last to leave the building.
