PURPOSE:
Amigos del Valle is a community wide service project. Our purpose is to
provide services to senior adults who wish to remain independent within
their own homes with a respectable style of life.
SERVICES: On a typical day our care providers will make five in-home
visits and provide some of the following kinds of services:
> Transportation to a doctor, pharmacy or hospital
> Deliver food or go shopping with a senior adult
> Provide minor home repairs
> Offer a blood pressure check
> Deliver wood for cooking or heating purposes
> Guide seniors who need homemakers or who are not aware of resources
available to them
> Take a person to the bank or to a local senior center
> Offer reassurance and comfort to those who are lonely
HISTORY: In the fall of 1977, the Espanola Valley Group Ministry, a
cooperative group of United Methodist churches received a grant of $11,087.00
for the development of a senior citizens ministry. Since then, the Amigos
del Valle program has grown. It now serves approximately 175 seniors
in the Espaola Valley, has two full time care givers, many volunteers,
and a budget of just over $119,000.
ORGANIZATION:
Amigos del Valle is governed by a twenty member Board of directors consisting
of persons from different churches in the Espanola
Valley. A majority are senior adults on the board. The Valley View United
Methodist Church, besides contributing financial support, furnishes
office space, telephone, and secretarial services for us. Their pastor,
Dennis Heffner, serves as coordinator, advisor, and administrator of
this program.
FUNDING: Amigos del Valle is a non-profit organization whose support
has now become community wide including the Northern New Mexico/Los
Alamos United Way. We do not receive any government funding. The services
are offered to any senior citizen who needs them without charge, however,
contributions are greatly appreciated.
This outreach ministry is related to the General Board of Global Ministries
of the United Methodist Church. We are a General Advance Special Project,
#581540 0.
SUPPORT: Most all of our financial
support comes from individuals through United Way, United Methodist
Advance Special love gifts, or directly from people who are concerned
about senior adults in need. If you wish to be supporting partner with
us so that we can continue to provide direct services to those with
great need, please make your gift payable to Amigos del Valle
and mail it to the address below. Thank you.
