Fellowship of Congregations

Nine Syracuse Eastside congregations participate in inter-congregational events. These congregations are Bethany Baptist, Grace Episcopal with Trinity Episcopal, Islamic Society of Central New York, Our Lady of Solace Roman Catholic, Plymouth Congregational, Temple Society of Concord, True Christian Community, and University United Methodist Church.

The Fellowship participates in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Dome Event held each January. Members of the congregations are seated at various tables to encourage dialogue and new friendships.

The Fellowship sponsors a series, Who we are -- What we believe, in which the various congregations presented their faith, tradition, and rituals.

The Fellowship also sponsors community events such as

a Conversation Series focused on Reducing Gun Violence in Syracuse
a Citizenship and Faith: How do they fit? community presentation

In addition, following September 11, 2001, clergy of the Fellowship presented a letter of "friendship and support" to Imam Kobeisy of the Islamic Society as a leader of Muslims in our community.

National Council of Churches of Christ

The United Methodist Church is part of the National Council of Churches which is the nation's leading organization in the movement for Christian unity.  Its 36 Protestant and Orthodox member communions (denominations) include more than 50 million adherents in nearly 140,000 congregations nationwide.  Through the NCC, members join with partners in more than 80 countries, including the United States, in ministries of disaster relief, development and refugee assistance; unity, justice, education, and public witness.

Church World Service

The United Methodist Church is a member of Church World Service. Church World Service is partners on the journey with indigenous churches and organizations in more than 80 countries, sharing the struggle to help people move beyond poverty and powerlessness. Born in the aftermath of World War II, today Church World Service is 36 Protestant, Anglican, and Orthodox communions in the U.S., cooperating worldwide in programs of long-term development, emergency response, and assistance to refugees.

World Council of Churches

The United Methodist Church (USA) is a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC). The WCC is an international fellowship of Christian churches, built upon the foundation of encounter, dialogue and collaboration. The WCC was formed to serve and advance the ecumenical movement - the quest for restoring the unity of the church - by encouraging in its members a common commitment to follow the gospel. The prayer of the churches which belong to the WCC is for the renewal and faithful response of the people of God in witness and service to the world.
