Annual Meeting 2010

Harriett J OlsonIt was a full house at Rochelle United Methodist Church Saturday where close to 200 United Methodist Women gathered for our Annual Meeting on Saturday. Larry Hilkemann, Nellie Winters, and Linda Cater welcomed us all to DeKalb District.

Judy Siaba presided at the meeting and introduced featured speaker, Harriett J. Olson. Her inspiring message was based on the scripture from Hebrews 11, By Faith..., our theme for the day. Focusing on Hagar, the only woman mentioned by name in that listing of faithful persons, she spoke of our long history of reaching out to persons on the fringe, powerless and voiceless and called on us to continue the work. Women's Division has adopted this Vision statement to guide our work: "Turning faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world."

In the business meeting that followed new officers were elected,New officers and the budget for 2011 was approved with our pledge to mission of $375,000.

Rita L. Smith was elected president to serve the unexpired term created with the resignation of Karen Hewitson. Barbara Green will serve as treasurer and Jessie Cunningham as Social Action coordinator. Rozalyn Shelton was added to the committee on nominations.

Our lunch was efficiently served by Rochelle UMW and during the lunch hour there was opportunity to browse the many exhibits and find the answers to questions in the scavenger hunt.

Dance teamThe transition from 'business' to worship was set by the presentation of the Hephsibah Worship Dance Team from First Korean UMC in Wheeling.

Bishop JungBishop Hee-Soo Jung reflected on the 'unreasonable' Samaritan woman in John 4 who dared to talk theology with Jesus. This encounter left her a changed woman. May it be the same for us.
