SPIRITUAL GROWTH STUDY

Children of the Bible

This spiritual growth study invites us into the stories in the Bible from which we can glean the place of children in ancient times. Stories from both the Hebrew and Greek texts -- the Old and New Testaments will call us once again to both love in the face of challenge and to become like a child so that we too enter into the kingdom of God where the hungry are fed, the prisoners are freed and the children are whole people in Jesus Christ. Study leader: Rev. Derek C. Weber, PhD.

MISSION STUDIES

INDIA AND PAKISTAN

Learn about the rich and diverse cultures of these two countries that share a border. The study explores selected current issues affecting both countries, including gender issues, poverty, child labor, population, caste, illiteracy, religious extremism, and globalization. The study also presents the rich theologies and approaches to mission which have originated from India, and looks at the role the 150 years of Methodist mission, ministry and heritage in India and Pakistan. Study leaders: Frances Brown, Rev. Mike Mather, Vicky Motch, and Nancy Myers.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

Education is a right of all children and is affirmed by Scripture, which calls us to "train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray". (Proverbs 22:6) The purpose of this study is to identify and examine systemic issues related to public education in US; celebrate models of church/public school partnership; and provide a framework where individual transformation can result in actions that transform communities. It will explore root causes of the current crisis in public education, e.g., poverty, allocation of funds, race, class, societal conditions and examine the impact these causes on schools, children, teachers and communities. Study leaders, Bonnie Albert, Mary Melvin, Jeanie Park, and Ruth Ellen Stone.

CHI-MI-CA (Children's Mission Camp)

It's a great family vacation experience! Our popular children's event for children ages 3 - 4th grade (completed) is an exciting opportunity for children to go to camp with their Mom or Grandma and learn about mission. Children are in CHI-MI-CA or child care while adults are in their classes. They also have time for games and outdoor activities. Classes are formed by grade completed or age. Each class is staffed with an adult teacher and teen helpers. Director: Randa Zolandz.
