Chairperson on Nominations

PRESIDENT

  • presides at the meetings of the district organization and its Executive Committee and serves as an ex officio member of all other committees, where they exist, except the Committee on Nominations;
  • works with the Executive Committee in receiving, evaluating and preparing reports;
  • signs with the secretary all official and legal papers and orders on the treasury;
  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit presidents and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;
  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference;
  • develops, with the Executive Committee, a program of district visitation for local and district units or clusters of units to promote the PURPOSE;
  • develops, with the Executive Committee, a plan to urge local and district units to become Mission Today Units, using the criteria received from the conference;
  • incorporates elements of Mission Today into the ongoing program of the district;
  • services as a member of the conference Executive Committee;
  • represents or designates someone to represent, United Methodist Women wherever opportunities are afforded by the district.

    VICE PRESIDENT
  • guides the Executive Committee in its responsibility for planning, implementing, and promoting the program of the district, including the district annual meeting;

  • serves as contact person for local and district unit vice presidents and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • signs, with the president, all orders on the treasury and all official and legal papers, making certain each is properly dated;

  • keeps an accurate roll of local units and their elected leaders;

  • sends a list of elected officers of the district organization (including addresses, zip codes and telephone numbers) to the local and district unit presidents and the secretary of the conference organization immediately upon their election;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit secretaries and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attendfs training opportunitites provided by the conference.

SECRETARY

  • keeps accurate minutes of all meetings of the district organization and its Executive Committee and gives notice of Executive Committee meetings;

  • serves as custodian of all records and official papers;

  • signs, with the president, all orders on the treasury and all official and legal papers, making certain each is properly dated;

  • keeps an accurate roll of local units and their elected leaders;

  • sends a list of elected officers of the district organization (including addresses, zip codes and telephone numbers) to the local and district unit presidents and the secretary of the conference organization immediately upon their election;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit secretaries and provides resources and training of them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

TREASURER

  • opens a checking account in the district's name, using a tax I.D. number obtained from the conference treasurer;

  • receives all funds from local and district units monthly or quarterly, as the conference determines, and from district members; records totals of all funds and any specific designations, and consistently forwards all funds to the conference treasurer, using the appropriate remittance forms;

  • receives Administration and Membership Development funds from the conference treasurer and disburses them in accord with approved recommendations from the district Executive Committee and written order of the district president and secretary;

  • sends itemized financial statements to district elected leaders and the conference treasurer at least quarterly, and provides regular written financial reports at district Executive Committee meetings;

  • presents the Schedule of Cash Activities statement to the district Executive Committee and to the conference treasurer;

  • sees the annually a certified public accountant or a person with a minimum of a four-year accounting degree performs specified accounting procedures on the books and accounting records of the district and that the report form is completed;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit treasurers and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference;

  • arranges for the Service Center to send Local Treasurer Packets and World Thank Offering Packets to local treasurers and units that need them; handles orders for Gift to Mission cards;

  • works with the district mission coordinator for education and interpretation to promote giving to mission with emphasis on the importance of Undesignated Mission Giving, including promotion of the World Thank Offering;

  • works with the district secretary for program resources as she orders and sells materials;

  • chairs the district Committee on Finance where one exists or, if there is no separate committee, chairs the district Executive Committee when dealing with matters relating to finance.

SECRETARY OF PROGRAM RESOURCES

  • is informed about and promotes use of printing and audiovisual materials of the Women's Division and General Board of Global Ministries available through the Service Center;

  • promotes the Reading Program, receives reports from the local units regarding their participation in the Reading Program, and sends a yearly report regarding district participation to the conference secretary of program resources;

  • serves as the contract person for local and district unit secretaries of program resources and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference;

  • promotes the mission magazines Response and New World Outlook, and Response magazine on cassette;

  • orders resources on consignment; displays and arranges for the sale of program materials at meetings of the district organization;

  • works with the treasurer in ordering and selling materials.

MISSION COORDINATORS

SECRETARY OF PROGRAM RESOURCES

  • understands and communicates the connection between personal spiritual development and mission as expressed through social and global involvement;

  • coordinates and/or promotes special times and events for worship, prayer and meditation such as A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial, ecumenical worship, retreats and devotions at meetings;

  • incorporates language and images into worship that are inclusive of and affirming to women, people of color, and people with disabilities;

  • involves women in biblical and theological study, utilizing the annual spiritual growth study, Response, New World Outlook, the Program Book for United Methodist Women, and the Reading Program;

  • provides opportunities for study of theology, starting with the United Methodist "Doctrinal Standards and Our Theological Task" in The Book of Discipline, 2000, &@182¶¶101-104;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit mission coordinators for spiritual growth, where they exist, and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee:

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference/district;

  • The mission coordinator for spiritual growth serves on:

  • Executive Committee

  • Committee on Program, where one exists

  • Committee on Finance, where on exists.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

  • works with the Executive Committee to select several priority social issues on which to focus district prayer, study and action, taking into consideration conference priorities;

  • coordinates the public policy and legislative activities of the district;

  • promotes and interprets the biblical basis for social action and the position of The United Methodist Church on social issues, utilizing the Social Principles (The Book of Discipline, 2000, ¶¶ 166-166) and The Book Resolutions of The United Methodist Church, 2002;

  • serves as a member of the district committee on Church and Society or its equivalent (The Book of Discipline, 2000¶ 657);

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit mission coordinators for social action, where they exist, and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference.

EDUCATION AND INTERPRETATION

  • promotes and interprets the work of the General Board of Global Ministries that the Women's Division supports, including interpretation of the changing concepts of mission and changing roles of mission personnel;

  • promotes mission education opportunities: mission studies, local mission opportunities, Schools of Christian Mission, United Methodist Seminars on National and International Affairs, mission encounters, and supplying material resources for missio programs and projects using the Material Resources for Mission Catalog;

  • promotes and uses printed and audiovisual mission resources of the General Board of Global Ministries to tell the mission story, and personalizes "where the money goes" using specific examples found in resources;

  • promotes and interprets the need for Undesignated Mission Giving to undergird the program of mission outreach of the General Board of Global Ministries that is supported by the Women's Division, with special emphasis on women, children and youth;

  • works with the Executive Committee to urge local and district units to become Mission Today Units, using that to fulfill Mission Today Unit criteria; sends a yearly report regarding district participation to the conference mission coordinator for education and interpretation;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit mission coordinators for education and interpretation, where they exist, and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference.

MEMBERSHIP NURTURE AND OUTREACH

  • chairs the district Committee on Membership Nurture and Outreach, where on exists or, if there is no separate committee, chairs the district Executive Committee when dealing with matters relating to membership;

  • becomes informed about the scope and concerns of United Methodist Women;

  • familiarizes herself with the activity of local and district units within the district;

  • notifies the Executive Committee about the needs and concerns of membership and the plans of the Committee on Membership Nurture and Outreach;

  • works for 100% reporting of the membership from each unit;

  • maintains an up-to-date inventory of churches in the district that do not have organized units;

  • works with the Committee on Membership Nurture and Outreach and with local churches to plan and to organize new units;

  • serves as the contact person for local and district unit mission coordinators for m4embership nurture and outreach, where they exist, and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • works with the Executive Committee to become a supportive community and to provide regular creative fellowship activities for the committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference.

COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

  • works with elected leadership in promoting the organization and PURPOSE and publicizing activities of United Methodist Women;

  • provides training for local and district unit mission teams to develop skills and techniques in publicity;

  • establishes contact with church and secular press;

  • serves as editor or cooperates with the editor of the district United Me5thodist Women's newsletter, newspaper or column;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference.

CHAIRPERSON OF NOMINATIONS

  • develops plans to help members of the committee see their task as an ongoing responsibility;

  • provides information for the committee concerning vacancies that need to be filled;

  • works with the chairpersons of local Committees on Nominations to discover new leadership;

  • presents an annual written report of term and tenure to the Executive Committee;

  • serves as the contact person for chairpersons of local and district unit Committees on Nominations and provides resources and training for them at least annually, as determined by the Executive Committee;

  • attends training opportunities provided by the conference.
