Sacred Light Ministry

Christ UMC

498 SW Brookwood Ave.

Hillsboro OR 97123

sacredlightministry@verizon.net

Sacred Light Ministry is my primary appointment.  This ministry provides a broad umbrella where I can officiate at sacred ceremonies, offer spiritual guidance through counseling and study groups and help local churches with their Christian Education issues.  I am also available to be an Interim Choral Director and provide pulpit supply.

My secondary appointment is at Christ United Methodist Church in Portland.  Since this is a new relationship, it is yet to be totally defined.  I am sharing my 20 plus years of Christian Education experience and knowledge there and my husband and I participate in the music program and outreach projects.

I have a passion for planning and leading worship, finding ways to empower God's people to sing out their faith.  I believe that good worship strengthens our relationship with God and with each other, and inspires us to take the Gospel out of the sanctuary into the world.  Most of my active ministry has been in a local church.  Currently, I am following a different call as I homeschool our youngest daughter.  I am discovering that ministry is not a program to be planned; ministry is offering my gifts in whatever situation I find myself.

Dorita Betts Borgerson: Deacon serving the First UMC in Medford as the Minister of Christian Education. In this role, Dorita’s call is to create opportunities for people to have meaningful spiritual experiences that draw them into exploring, discovering and nurturing their faith along with other “faith-journeyers.”  The vision is that the local church becomes a place where God’s grace can manifest itself in the lives of the parishioners renewing them and strengthening them so they can go back into the world as new creations and work their renewed God given beauty in the world that is in desperate need of grace.

Retired Diaconal Minister

14170 SW Bonnie Brae St.

Beaverton OR 97005

tcfoster2@verizon.net

As a retiree, I find ongoing opportunities to serve.  Primarily through
active leadership at Portland First UMC,  in the areas of music, mission, arts, and program development and presentation, I continue to volunteer my time, skills and energies in ways that are helpful to both church staff and the congregation.  Recently, I have also served individuals in crisis through Stephen Ministries.  Beyond the local church I am able to extend a helping hand to people in other places, mostly through the Board of Global Ministries VIM Primetimers program.  Primetimers, while designed for mature adults/seniors, serves persons of all ages, including children, youth and adults as well as seniors.
Fitting quite well into my experience and interests is teaching a class
titled "Music and Missions" at the  2007 School of Christian Mission-- a great opportunity to enable others to bring to their local churches a new awareness of the role of music in mission work of all kinds.  Finally, not the least way in which I draw upon my active years of Diaconal Ministry is through interpreting for--and, hopefully inspiring--people of faith, to bring a clearer understanding of the Diaconate.
