Students in Service and Action

Students in Service and Action is the Wesley Foundation's Student Service Initiative. We seek to provide students with opportunities to live their faith by taking action in the community. At the same time, students connect with one another in fellowship through their service endeavors.

You are invited to participated in our service opportunities whatever your religious background may be.

For more information on our service activities, please e-mail Lance Zhang

Service activities generally take place one or two Saturdays a month. There are currently no 'regular' activities. However, past projects include:
  • National Public Lands Day
National Public Lands Day is a once a year event held by the National Parks Association which is dedicated to improving the environment around us. The Welsey Foundation helps on this day by going to nearby parks and having a blast while making our world a better place.

  • SafeHaven
SafeHaven is a travelling men's homeless shelter which UUMC hosts for one week during the winter. Wesley Foundation students have a great time meeting these gentlemen and having responsibility for the shelter for one evening during that week.

  • Working with the Elderly at Hill Haven Nursing Home
We work with both residents of the nursing home and those who are in assisted living. This past semester, students went caroling around Hill Haven.

  • Help the Homeless Walkathon
This fundraiser takes place every year on the Mall in D.C., generally on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. There is a small entrance fee, and participants are also encouraged to get donations from sponsors. The money raised goes to varies D.C. organizations that work with homeless people in the city.

  • Habitat for Humanity
We do whatever is needed at the time we are at a housing project, whether that be constructing walls, shingling a roof, or hauling bricks.
