Leaded Stained Glass for the New Tower

Ruth McDermott

"a reminder of God"
In Memory of
Thomas, Sarah, and Robert Taylor

Three stained glass windows are now in place adjacent to the new stairs down to Church School classrooms, designated in memory of loved ones. The windows portray the "Tale of Three Trees" (1) whose dreams came true in ways unexpected. The timber from one who wanted to be part of "the most beautiful treasure chest in the world" became the manger that held the baby Jesus. The second, who wanted to be a strong sailing ship that would carry powerful kings, became a small fishing boat that carried the King of heaven and earth. The third tree wanted to stay on the hilltop and "grow so tall that when people stop to look at me they will raise their eyes to heaven and think of God." Instead she was cut into the beams that were used to make the Cross upon which Jesus was crucified.

(1) The Tale of Three Trees, a Traditional Folktale, retold by Angela Elwell Hunt, Lion Publishing 1989.

Also in place is a birch forest scene at the top of
the stairs, dedicated to Sunday School superintendents
and Christian Education directors, past, present and future.
